Job description
JOB SUMMARY:
Obtains blood and non-blood specimens from Cancer Center and Infusion Center outpatients by venipuncture from the arm and/or microcollections from fingers in a variety of collection tubes or capillaries, some of which contain preservatives or anticoagulants. Assumes responsibility for actively contributing to section productivity and cost effectiveness. Assumes responsibility for recognizing situations that require referral to Laboratory Supervisor. Performs additional tasks as requested by Department Head or his/her designee.
REQUIREMENTS:
Required:
High school graduate or equivalent.
Preferred:
Completion of a recognized phlebotomy course in Phlebotomy and/or Medical Assistant (or equivalent).
Certification with an accredited Agency (such as: the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians, Inc. and/or the National Phlebotomy Association (NPA).
1 year of Practical Phlebotomy Experience (Preferred)
Successful completion of all Orientation Programs.
