Job description
This position is responsible for the oversight of the clinical services provided by the specialty pharmacy that ensures the effective and efficient provision of clinical pharmacy services. The purpose of specialty pharmacy services is to optimize the care of outpatients and achieve therapeutic outcomes in specific chronic disease states. This includes supervision of Specialty Pharmacy Staff and development of pharmacy standards, workflows and clinical criteria.
- (60%) Responsible for the coordination, and implementation of Specialty Pharmacy Services across the
system. The individual is a leader directing and monitoring specialty pharmacy services. This oversight
includes adherence to accreditation standards, clinical guidelines and collaboration with the specialty
pharmacy operations team to ensure clinical goals are met. These responsibilities include (but are not
limited to): - Clinic oversight of specialty program
- Oversees all clinical staff and the services provided.
- Responsible for the clinic decision-making aspects of the specialty pharmacy program
- Ensures that qualified clinicians are accountable to the organization for decisions affectioning patients.
- Provides guidance for the clinic operations aspects of the Specialty Pharmacy Program
- Responsible for the compliance monitoring of Specialty Pharmacy. Holds the title of Specialty Pharmacy
Compliance Officer and has the responsibility for identifying methods and accountabilities to track and
review applicable state and federal laws and regulations, including those related to HIPAA, FWA, and
functions covered by URAC/ACHC - Responsible for oversite, development and compliance with all specialty pharmacy policies and
procedures.
- (10%) Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, handling multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced
environment. This individual will coordinate clinical pharmacy services and programs and participates in
multi-disciplinary committees and projects to collaborate on clinical pharmacy issues related to specialty
pharmacy. Chairs the Specialty Pharmacy Quality Management Committee and completes all requirements
timely for ACHC and URAC Accreditation. - (5%) Provides pharmaceutical care by: designing, implementing and monitoring patient specific pharmacotherapy; promoting safe, evidence-based, and cost-effective drug therapy; developing and
fostering positive collaboration with providers and clinic staff; documenting pharmaceutical care activities
and outcomes. - (5%) Develop and implement quality improvement processes to monitor the effectiveness and quality of
pharmacist services. - (5%) This individual is a leader that facilitates development, implementation and maintenance of systems,
procedures and protocols that promote desirable patient outcomes. - (5%) Completes and conducts annual performance reviews for all clinical pharmacy staff. Involved in staff
development, new hire orientation, discipline and praise, and hiring decisions. - (5%) Oversight of staffing, scheduling and payroll for specialty pharmacy staff.
- (5%) OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct or participate in drug use projects, cost reduction/management initiatives, and quality improvement
activities. Provide drug education to providers/clinic staff. - Serves as a preceptor for pharmacy students and/or pharmacy residents.

- BPS – Board of Pharmacy Specialties Certification
- Required Equivalent Experience - Must be obtained within 2 years of hire or transfer into position.
- Education: Bachelors Degree
- Comments: Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy (RPH) or Pharm. D. Degree and current licensure in the State of Michigan.
- Education: Masters Degree
- Comments: Master of Business Administration (MBA) required within 3 years of hire or transfer into position.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS
Completion of a Pharmacy Practice Residency accredited by the American Society of Health System
Pharmacists.
Certification from the Board of Pharmacy Specialties in relevant specialty area.
Completion of any MyMichigan Health on?site training.
Basic knowledge of personal computer.
Analytical skills needed to interpret clinical data and research drug information.
Written and interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact
with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as trauma, grief and death.
Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for
your position.
Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions
of the job as outlined in the job description.
Overall vision and hearing are necessary with or without assisted device(s).
Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as
stooping, kneeling or crouching.
Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan
Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition
of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
Physical Demand Level: Light. Must be able to occasionally (0?33% of the workday) lift or carry 11?20 lbs.,
frequently (34?66% of the workday) 10 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls.
