Job description
NUVIA UK's Technical Services department are recruiting for an experienced Human Factors Engineer. This is an embedded opportunity, supporting one of our leading clients within the nuclear defence industry. Location wise, you are able to work on a remote basis with limited travel to Devonport Dockyard in Plymouth.
Please note the ability to obtain BPSS level security clearance is essential, as a minimum.
Primary Purpose:
- To support the Human Factors professional technical authority for all Engineering Services related business on the Devonport site (both nuclear and non-nuclear) across the 7 Human Factors domains (Human Factors Engineering, Systems Safety, Health Hazard Assessments, Training, Manpower, Personnel, Organization and Social)
- To provide professional support to the Principal Engineer (Human Factors) employed within the Engineering Services Directorate.
- To provide professional advice and guidance on Human Factors / human performance issues with relation to the Engineering Services Directorate business.
- To support the development of Human Factors policy and procedures necessary to support business needs.
- To prepare Human Factors assessment work in support of both design and safety aspects of the Devonport site nuclear and non – nuclear business.
- To provide in-house Human Factors training and support to the development of trainee Human Factors specialists within the Engineering Services Directorate.
- To provide the Human Factors substantiation component of safety justifications.
- To provide guidance on the integration of Human Factors into the design and safety processes in accordance with the business management system (AGILITY).
Principal Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Provide professional support to a team of specialists, engineers and other staff as appropriate and provide consultancy (primary internal) in the areas of Human Factors and human performance.
- Ensure that Human Factors assessments to support Design and Safety Management projects are conducted in accordance with appropriate standards and business processes.
- Support the Integration of Human Factors (HF) into Design and Safety Management projects in accordance with the AGILITY process.
- Provide professional guidance on the application of Human Factors knowledge and understanding across the seven Human Factors domains.
- Provide the Human Factors substantiation component of design / safety justifications.
- Maintain an up-to-date awareness of developments in Human Factors.
- To assist the Principal Engineer (Human Factors) in providing the intelligent customer function (w.r.t. Human Factors) for DRDL during the contract tendering process.
- Support the development of trainee Human Factors specialists.
- Attend project, production, HAZOPS, optioneering and value engineering meetings.
- Ensuring that conventional health and safety executive statutory regulation requirements are embodied into the engineering systems.
Essential Experience & Qualifications:
- Nuclear Introductory Course (or equivalent) and /or submarine system knowledge.
- Devonport Safety Management Training Course or Devonport Nuclear Safety Principles (Phase 2)
- Understanding of Human Factors within engineering design and safety practice.
- Project specification, planning project management and budgeting experience.
- Relevant behavioural science / Human Factors degree or significant experience in relevant behavioural science / Human Factors discipline with NVQ Level 4 in a behavioural science discipline.
Security Clearance Requirements:
- BPSS essential, SC clearance preferred.
