Job Description Summary
As a Product Definition Engineer with GE Aerospace, you'll be part of a highly respected team of Engineers and Designers developing solutions and high-reliability Mechanical products for the aerospace industry.
You’ll be a member of an Integrated Product Team & be responsible for completing on-time designs from initial concepts through final qualification and production release. You will be working to define opportunities to automate processes and develop the solution. You will work directly with manufacturing and suppliers to ensure designs result in the most cost-effective solution.
The Product Definition Engineer will also be responsible for documenting designs utilizing the latest drafting standards. This position is full time, onsite, in Loves Park, IL.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
The Product Definition Engineer will create detailed part layouts, assemblies, and drawings utilizing the PLM system, Windchill and Solidworks CAD system. The Product Definition Engineer will interact closely with engineers of other functions including Product, Analysis and Manufacturing to collaborate on new designs.
The principal duties & responsibilities will include the following:
- Overall ownership and accountability of product definition for assigned projects from launch through production.
- 3D Modeling
- Detailing
- Checking
- Create assembly layouts.
- Generate/review parts for library use.
- Create all associated drawings for the mechanical product of the design package.
- Work within the guidelines of:
- Engineering Standards
- Product Definition Operating Procedures
- Specifications
- Government and Commercial Standards
- Evaluate and influence new and revised Engineering Standards and Product Definition Operating Procedures
- Ensure all interface characteristics between components are established and agreed upon by component owner of mating/interfacing parts.
- Concurrently work multiple projects, monitoring progress and quality, and ensure schedule requirements are met.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma/GED with at least 4 years of experience in Engineering and/or Design)
Desired Characteristics
- 2+ years of experience in Product Definition, Drafting/Modeling, Engineering, and/or Design
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Strong oral and written communication skills. Proficient in use of Solidworks CAD
- Proficient in use of Windchill PLM
- Working knowledge of the GD&T standards
- Working knowledge of the ASME standards
- Experience with castings and machining processes.
- Web based knowledge, word processing, and electronic spreadsheet / presentation skills.
- Ability to perform in a team environment, across functions, and with suppliers.
- Ability to communicate with all customer organizations, including leadership
