Job Summary
- The Conference Technical Services Manager is a professional at producing, designing, and conducting audio-visual events, large and small, including hybrid virtual events. This position will be the lead role in the implementation of these events for Renaissance Reno, ensuring flawless performance while exceeding stakeholder’s goals and expectations. A successful candidate will have the necessary technical background, experience, overall knowledge of audio and video staging technologies, lighting, basic set design, leadership skills, and experience needed to manage the cross-functional AV event. This position will lead the technical production, manage client (internal and external) relationships, and oversee planning and execution for events; often overseeing all aspects, along with hands-on technical performance and operations. For larger events this role may be part of a team responsible for a successful event.
The Technical Services portion of the role is responsible for the operational integrity of all public area AV and lighting systems including public access internet services.
Duties and Essential Job Functions
- Reporting to the General Manager, the Conference Technical Services Manager is responsible for providing support to fully remote and hybrid events/meetings as needed. Events and hybrid meetings vary in size along with types of spaces.
- This role will provide services to conference clients, internal business meetings, and consumer focused events.
- For larger events where outsourcing is required, this person will be responsible for significant internal coordination/communication between clients and internal stakeholders with external vendors, and involved at pre-production, production, and post-production activities.
- This position will be the lead role ensuring flawless execution for meetings, conferences, and events.
- The Conference Technical Services Manager will work closely with the Sales Team to advise, answer questions, provide quotes, solve problems for clients, create systems and information to encourage the sales of equipment and services that will best represent the client’s needs as well as the hotel’s desire to produce flawless, market-leading experiences.

Qualifications
- A successful candidate will have the necessary technical background, experience, overall knowledge of audio and video staging technologies, lighting, basic set design, leadership skills, and experience needed to manage the cross-functional AV event.
- Demonstrate an understanding and ability / willingness to learn IT and internet access technologies to work with technology providers to set up systems, troubleshoot and communicate problems, and secure dependable services for internal and external clients.
- Must be comfortable communicating to large groups and at all levels of the organization to clarify requirements, direct logistic, and influence the flow of an event to ensure the highest level of success for a given event.
- Capable of ensuring all technical components of a production are developed & executed flawlessly in keeping with the stakeholder/client's vision, budget requirements, timeline, and safety standards.
- Extensive knowledge of operating audio-visual equipment which includes but is not limited to audio, data, lighting, staging, video, etc
- Excellent technical knowledge of teleconferencing, presentation tools, PowerPoint, and other AV hardware and software, may include video switchers, audio boards, cameras, and microphones.
- Experience supporting and managing virtual meeting applications such as MS Teams, Cisco WebEx, Zoom, etc.
- Experience with stand-alone and cloud-based video encoding solutions such as vMix, ffmpeg, Elemental, Haivision, etc
- Willingness to work days, early mornings, nights, and weekends, as productions or events may require
- Comfortably operate in pressure production setting while being the source of calm confidence and direction for the team
- Thorough working knowledge of AV concepts such as acoustics, lighting, aspect ratios, and font size versus distance, scan rates, video standards and transmission systems
- Knowledgeable of troubleshooting, testing, analyses and corrective action on systems, networks, hardware and software in a professional AV environment. Dedication to solving the problem in a manner that services the timing of the production.
- Ability to speak effectively to small groups of employees, business partners and/or vendors.
- Ability to offer suggestions to clients in a friendly, non-confrontational, and productive manner.
- Demonstrate an understanding and ability / willingness to learn occupational hazards and standard safety precautions.
- Demonstrate an understanding and ability / willingness to learn federal, state, and local codes as well as entertainment electrical and lighting principles.
- Ability to review and comprehend all necessary documentation and reports, including but not limited to blueprints, sketches, plans, specifications, and instruction manuals for the purpose of analyzing, repairing, and adjusting machinery, equipment, and controls as well as produce events as envisioned and communicated.
- Ability to operate scissor lifts of various sizes.
Preferred
- Training in computer science/engineering/audio-video or related field plus 3 years AV engineering experience; or 6 years equivalent experience
- Experience in Hotel conference audio visual sales and services.
- Experience in IT and wifi/internet access technologies.
- Lift certification or ability to obtain.
- Experience with computer aided drafting (CAD)
Compensation
- Individual compensation decisions depend on a variety of factors, including prior experience.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.
- A significant amount of manual dexterity is required.
- The employee must be able to lift and/or move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Specific hearing abilities required by this job include the ability to adjust volume levels for general audiences. Ability to hear and correct distorted or inaudible sounds.
- Ability to hold and manipulate tools.
- Ability to climb ladders, work in enclosed spaces, work at heights.
