Job description
Summary
The purpose of this assignment is to meet the administrative and clinical needs of the physicians and nurse practitioners while also tending to the needs of our patients in a prompt, courteous, and professional manner. The Medical Assistant (MA) works directly with the physicians, nurse practitioners, and management. Candidates should be able to perform all the essential job functions shown below.
Essential Job Functions
- Prepares exam rooms for physicians and in-between patients
- Escorts patients from waiting room to treatment room
- Records patient vitals, allergies, medications, Meaningful Use data, and reason for visit into the ATHENA EMR system
- Call or faxes prescriptions under the direction of a physician
- May dispense samples as directed by physician & document in the EMR
- Maintains organization of the medication sample closet
- Perform Capsule Endoscopy Testing
- Perform tasks for 48 Hour Bravo testing
- Assist Physician with 24 Hour Motility testing
- Advises patients of prolonged and unanticipated waiting times
- Alerts doctor when patient is ready
- Provide Spanish Translation as needed
- Assists physician during examination and in-office procedures
- Explain instructions for GI PATH testing
- Performs Lactose Testing
- Performs H-pylori breath testing
- Performs Lactulose testing
- Performs Cologuard Testing
- Collects specimens for MYRIAD genetics testing
- Completes requests for additional information on above noted testing
- Prepares patient charts for next day’s charts: Includes review of chart history, ensure lab & imaging results have been completed; results available, interviews patient for additional information
- Responsible for organization and cleanliness of exam rooms and hallways in the clinical area throughout the working day
- Gives injections following universal precautions
- Provide written and verbal dietary and procedure prep instructions
- Reviews instructions for medications and diet with patient
- Responsible for ordering and stocking of medical supplies
- Schedules office visits, procedures, and diagnostic tests
- Responsible for maintenance of the ATHENA follow up bucket (alarms)
- Responsible for responding to requests/task sent to personal ATHENA in-box
Requirements:
- Must have Medical Assistant certification from an accredited school.
- Full time position
- Bilingual and biliterate in English and Spanish highly preferred.
- Must have reliable transportation.
