Kidz2Leaders is a faith-based nonprofit working to end generational incarceration. Through a 10-year continuum of programming, beginning at age eight and provided at no cost to families, we provide stability, opportunity, and a Christian community for children of inmates. Each year we serve an average of 450 children and family members in the Atlanta Metro area through four distinct, ongoing program platforms, an effort that involves over 700 volunteers and a growing staff team. We are experiencing record-breaking growth within our ministry, and we plan to expand into new cities over the next several years. With our growing footprint and long-term commitment to students and families, we believe that we can truly end generational incarceration.
Job Description The
Communications Manager is responsible for overseeing Kidz2Leaders' brand, messaging and platforms, leveraging print and digital communications channels to best reach K2L's four audiences: current program participants, prospective participants, donors, and volunteer partners. Working to support development, programs and everything that we do, this person will set the communications strategy and be intimately hands-on with its execution.
Responsibilities of the
Communications Manager will include:
Planning - Meet with the program and development team quarterly to understand communications needs
- Create a quarterly communications plan and calendar, determining what content will be shared on which platforms
- Oversee and maintain K2L's web properties and technology subscriptions to best support the needs of the team (such as SmugMug, Leadpages, Zapier, Vimeo, Airtable, etc.)
- Create an annual communications budget
- Develop an understanding of K2L's different audiences and unique communication styles
- Create a plan for desired interview, photo, or video content to be captured through the year
Branding & Design - Understand and give direction to the team regarding the K2L brand guide to maintain clarity and consistency
- Create branding for new and recurring events and programs, as needed, typically using Canva
- Create slides, promotional pieces, and social media posts to reflect event-specific branding
General Communications - Create a monthly digital newsletter for supporters using Constant Contact
- With the program team, create and mail ongoing print communications to participants
- Post updates to Instagram, LinkedIn and Facebook weekly
- Utilize online communication tools to send updates to program participants and volunteers
Fundraising - With the Development Manager, create and mail two annual donor/volunteer campaigns
- Update development print resources as needed (booklet, folder, one-pager, presentation)
- Assist with fundraising events, such as Rally4theKids (motorcycle rally) and the annual golf tournament
- Create a development and content posting plan for November, leading up to National Giving Day (Giving Tuesday / Georgia Gives Day), utilizing the Georgia Gives website as well as Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn
Public Relations - Act as a liaison with local news and publications, facilitating magazine, radio, and TV features for key events and programs
- Oversee and update media folders, with updated B-roll and images, and promotional videos
Web Properties - Update Kidz2Leaders.org regularly with program and events updates
- Create and maintain Leadpages landing pages specific to camper and volunteer recruitment for seasonal programs
- Oversee analytics and tracking for web properties, creating reports as needed
- With a Meta advertising partner, create and run Facebook and Instagram ads for participant recruitment
Camp Hope - Create all branded deliverables for Camp Hope in advance of camp
- Attend one or both weeks of Camp Hope to manage communications and media, including hosting news outlets and overseeing volunteer photographers and videographers
- Send daily Constant Contact email updates to the campers' families
- Update Smugmug albums daily with photos and share with campers' families
- Post daily to Instagram and Facebook from camp
Qualifications - Unquestioning alignment with the K2L Statement of Faith
- A bachelor's degree in communications or related field
- Exceptional copywriting and editing capabilities, with high precision and strong attention to detail
- Experience using digital platforms and technology to engage audiences
- A creative, entrepreneurial spirit and ability to thrive on a highly collaborative staff team
Additional Information Position is salaried/non-exempt. Compensation for the role is $55,000 with a baseline 30-hour work week, Monday to Thursday, and opportunities to earn overtime. The K2L team works out of our office in Marietta/East Cobb. Benefits include over six weeks of paid leave, including vacation, sick leave, and holiday office closures, as well as a monthly benefits stipend intended to cover individual insurance/medical costs.
