KAWERAK POSITION DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE:                                     Building Custodian/Janitor/Light Maintenance

LOCATION:                                    Nome

POSITION STATUS:                     Emergency Hire – Temporary

EXEMPT STATUS:                        Non-exempt

PAY SCALE GRADE:                    7-8-9

REPORTS TO:                                Facilities Director

 

BRIEF SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintain a professional attitude, be responsible, dependable and demonstrate a commitment to excellence.
  2. Responsible for cleaning the Kawerak offices and outside area.

DAILY:Clean toilets inside and out, Empty sanitary disposal boxes nightly, Clean sinks and counters.  Sweep and mop in bathrooms and staircases, restock toilet paper dispensers, toilet seat covers, wipe down bathroom walls and stalls when needed. Vacuum-pay particular attention to high traffic areas, move chairs if necessary to get mud and dirt, vacuum chair mats if dirty.  Dump garbage cans, Wipe down counters and table in the Boardroom.

WEEKLY:Clean & disinfect bathroom stalls, empty cigarette butts from outside cans.

MONTHLY:Scrub baseboards in bathrooms, clean garbage cans, vacuum window sills, radiators throughout buildings.

QUARTERLY:Clean front doors and windows (April, July, October, February) Shampoo all carpets-pay particular attention to high traffic areas (January, April, June or July, September or October).

TWICE A YEAR:Strip bathroom floors and wax, vacuum furniture, window blinds.

  1. Responsible for the security to the building, offices (windows & doors locked nightly) and equipment.
  2. Provide light installation and light repair services throughout the facility as indicated by work orders from immediate supervisor, including preventive and corrective maintenance on all buildings and equipment. DOES NOT include: HVAC systems and plumbing systems, high and low pressure oil fired boilers, hot water heating systems, and Fire Alarm Systems unless employee obtains and maintains current certification.
  3. Performs snow removal, ice chipping, and salting/sanding walkways.
  4. Reports facilities compliance deficiencies and perform repairs as instructed by supervisor.
  5. Inspect facilities once a week for proper operation and report equipment problems, needed equipment, maintenance issues, or needed supplies to the immediate supervisor.
  6. Perform minor carpentry, painting, refinishing work and repair when directed.
  7. Maintain confidentiality and safe, secure environment.
  8. This position may be required to work swing-shifts, evening hours, and weekends. May be called in during off hours for minor repairs.
  9. Other duties as assigned by the Facilities Director.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school Diploma or G.E.D. with two (2) years of work experience in janitorial and/or building maintenance required.
  2. Must be willing to work a swing shift, evening hours or weekends. Must be able to come in as needed for equipment and maintenance issues.
  3. Must be dependable, self-motivated and capable of working with little day-to-day supervision.
  4. Must be able to follow detailed written and oral instructions.
  5. Must be physically able to bend, stoop, reach, climb and use hands. Frequent standing is required and may be subject to working in hazardous and cramped areas at times.
  6. Must be able to lift and carry objects up to 70 pounds.
  7. Knowledge of operation and use of cleaning equipment & products.
  8. Must have a valid Alaska Drivers License with a clean driving record.
