POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Principle Investigator (PI) or designee, the Senior Nurse Manager – Worcester State University is accountable for the clinical management of the WSU Student Health Services Unit (patient care unit) The Senior Nurse Manager is responsible for quality assurance, administration, leadership, and is accountable for the daily functions of the unit. The Nurse manager II will perform administrative functions and participate in patient care.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Manage Professional Nurse Practitioners and physicians. Hire, fire, orient, train, and supervision of the activities of staff. Implement disciplinary action if necessary and manage the performance evaluation process. Functional supervision of regulatory personnel, office support staff
- Collaborate with the contract PI in determining staffing mixes and levels needed to meet schedules, reassign personnel as required, oversee attendance records, and provide appropriate guidance
- Oversee patient care management and ensure that professional healthcare is practiced in accordance with established standards of primary nursing and standards of practice
- Represent the unit at administrative meetings within and outside of UMass Chan Medical School
- Assist in the design and implementation of the annual business plan
- Participate in the development of the budget for assigned cost center; monitors, evaluates and recommends changes within personnel, supplies, and equipment for assigned patient care unit
- Manage unit funding sources by monitoring revenue and expenditure activity; adhere to university, state and funding agency regulations
- Design reports and extrapolate information from databases for analysis of operations, reporting to state as needed.
- Assess quality, continuity of care, and patient outcomes
- Establish and monitor unit-based quality assurance functions, correct deficiencies, investigate related incidences and complaints, prepare follow-up reports, and implement corrective action
- Develop standard operating procedures
- Ensure compliance with federal, state and institutional requirements
- Comply with all safety and infection control standards
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Adult Primary Care or Family Nurse Practitioner with a minimum of a Master’s degree required, DNP preferred
Certifications/Licensures:
- Certification by a nationally recognized credentialing agency
- Current RN/NP registration with the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing
- DEA and Massachusetts prescriptive authority registration
Experience:
- Minimum 7 years as a nurse practitioner
- Minimum of 5 years in an ambulatory/primary care or like setting serving college age students with experience in a college or post-secondary setting strongly preferred.
- Minimum of three years in a leadership role including staff supervision with regulatory/accreditation responsibilities as part of that role
- Excellent clinical knowledge and judgment
- Ability to function independently, strategically plan and handle multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously.
Skills:

- Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills
- Ability to set priorities and establish/interpret policies and procedures
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office and EHR systems
- Knowledge of risk management, medical ethics, and medical-legal liability
Schedule to be discussed during interview. Full time during academic year; 1 day per week in Summer months.
