Job Summary:
The Developmental Therapeutics Core (DTC) of Northwestern University has an opening for a Research Associate reporting to DTC's Assistant Director. This is an exempt, one-year research staff appointment that is renewable annually upon satisfactory performance and funding availability.
Specific Responsibilities:
* Design and conduct in vivo experiments.
* Ability to joggle multiple in-house studies (maximum 4-5 studies at once)
* Ensure assigned SOPs are current and accurately reflected in executed studies/projects
* Analyze data and generate reports, review and revise existing research methodologies, and if needed develop new methodologies, mathematical &/or computer models for predicting data
* Ensure overall lab compliance with all internal and external regulations
* Mange data recording, tracking, and analysis for each project
* Manage DTC's blanket IACUC protocols
* Ability to work in a team setting
* Great communication skills
* Train and supervise lower-level core staff

Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
* The successful candidate will typically hold the PhD, MD, or equivalent terminal degree in basic science, biology, or pharmacology or, have received equivalent professional recognition (this is a non-tenure position)
* Typically have at least 5 years of practical lab/bench experience
* Demonstrated and proficient skills in animal (rodents) handling, standard mammalian cell culture procedures, and associated aseptic techniques in addition to maintenance of tissue culture facility
* Basic skills include tumor cell inoculation, tumor volume measurement, and compound administration
* Timely euthanasia and harvesting/collection of organs of mice
* Ability to perform systemic rodent drug administration: IV, SC, PO, and IP injections
* Experience with Excel graphing feature or GraphPad Prism
* Open to learning new techniques and procedures
Preferred Qualifications:
* Ph.D. in basic science, biology, or pharmacology
* Use of stereotaxic device, in vivo imaging, and surgical expertise are advantageous
* Experience with laboratory safety and IACUC guidelines
* Experience with in vitro and in vivo tumor models and aseptic surgical techniques
* Perform in vitro based assay (screening drugs) such as NCI-based assay or MTT-like assays
* Execute occasional molecular biology assays such as Western, PCR-testing, immunoprecipitation
* Abe to follow overall research objectives, independently design, plan, conduct, and troubleshoot experiments
* Able to generate reports at the termination of each experiment
* Able to generate cost estimation calculation for new experiments
* Recordkeeping and management of a cryogenic storage and histology collection for tumor cell line and PDX repository.
Target hiring range for this position will be between $60,000-$75,000 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data
