Position Overview:
The salary range for this position is $215,000-$375,000. This position includes membership in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan


The Department of Neurology, University of California at Davis, School of Medicine is recruiting a full-time physician leader to serve as Section Chief and Child Neurology Residency Program Director of our growing division of Child Neurology. In addition, this leader will be nominated to serve as Vice Chair of Faculty Development.

The position is offered in the Ladder/In-Residence series at the Full Professor rank, commensurate with experience. All members of the clinical faculty must provide inpatient and outpatient clinic care. Faculty in the Ladder/In-Residence series are expected to engage in teaching; develop independent research and/or creative work; and provide University and public service.

The incumbent will serve as Section Chief of Child Neurology, providing leadership, support, and strategic planning of the Section, including direction of its clinical, educational, and research efforts. The position requires strong leadership and management skills related to operational effectiveness, strategic planning, and clinical operations. The incumbent will provide guidance and mentorship to promote the success of faculty at all levels, recruit and retain faculty, develop strategies to enhance communication and collaboration in partnership with the department Chair, and create a safe, equitable and inclusive workplace. The incumbent share in the call responsibilities of the inpatient consultation service.

In addition, the leader will serve as Child Neurology Residency Program Director responsible for working with UCDH Graduate Medical Education and department staff to meet ACGME requirements and oversee the curriculum and supervision of current trainees. The selected candidate will lead a strong faculty team, ensure a comprehensive clinical educational experience for trainees, collaborate closely with department and University leadership including the Vice Chair of Education, insure best practices of compliance with ACGME standards, and serve as a national leader for innovative training models in child neurology education.

The incumbent will be nominated to serve as Vice Chair of Faculty Development to develop and implement a departmental mentoring program, develop programs to support faculty resiliency and work-life integration, oversee Academic Personnel actions, and assist the Chair with faculty development, recruitment and retention. The Vice Chair will work collaboratively with departmental leadership and the Associate Vice Chair for Faculty Development to provide a cohesive structure for the department as a whole.

The candidate will join three general Child Neurologists, three Pediatric Epileptologists, and two Nurse Practitioners who participate in delivering care at UC Davis Children's Hospital and an outpatient clinic. The UC Davis Children's Hospital has a 13-bed pediatric emergency department, 49-bed nationally ranked Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) averaging more than 500 admissions per year, 24-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit/Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PICU/PCICU) averaging more than 1,600 admissions annually, 48-bed Pediatrics floor, and 6 operating rooms in the Children's Surgery Center.
