GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

Kirkwood's Facilities Department offers students the opportunity to apply the education and skills obtained in the classroom to real life working situations with our Construction Coordinator and Architect. Internship specialization includes but not limited to: Facilities Planning and Construction Management, Safety and Security, Building Maintenance, Engineering, Grounds Maintenance, and Custodial Operations.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promote the mission of Kirkwood Community College
  • Develop transferable skills to be used in various employment settings
  • Experience and participate in all aspects of Kirkwood's Facilities Department
  • Assist in daily Facilities operations
  • Maintain positive relationships and rapport with employees of the Facilities Department
  • Perform all other related work duties as required by Facilities professional staff

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

Position involves occasional (10-33%) stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, sitting, pushing, pulling, grasping and balancing. Occasional (10-33%) lifting of up to 75 pounds and climbing at heights of up 25 feet. Frequent (34-66%) standing, walking, talking, hearing, repetitive motion, close visual work less than 18 inches, and travel to on- and off-campus facilities. Potential exposure to bio-hazardous waste; chemical waste; moving mechanical parts; electrical current; working on scaffolding and high places up to 25 feet; atmospheric conditions that may affect the respiratory system or the skin; fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation; noise; and vibration; and inside and outside environmental conditions. May be required to wear a respirator in some areas. Subject to extreme heat (temperatures above 90 degrees for periods of more than an hour; and extreme cold (temperatures below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour). Person in this position must satisfactorily complete Kirkwood's Blood Borne Pathogens training due to potential exposure risk to blood or bodily fluids, as well as Kirkwood's Right-to-Know (Hazard Communications) program. Must satisfactorily complete Kirkwood's CPR/First Aid training as a member of the Emergency Response and Control Team.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid driver's license required.

  • Enrolled in internship program or class
