Job description

PURPOSE:  

The purpose of this job description is to establish and define the authority, accountability, reporting relationships, responsibilities, duties, and measures of performance of the Project Manager at Buhrt Engineering, Inc .

BASIC FUNCTION:

The basic function of the Project Manager is to Perform Material Take-Off from Architectural/Structural Steel Project Drawings, Formulate Pricing for All Materials Associated with the Project(s), Draft Comprehensive Itemized Bid Proposal Project, Generate a purchase requisition for materials required for the project, Monitor and report on the status of the project weekly, address any scheduling impact(s) to the project, work cross-functionally to resolve any negative impacts related to the project, establish and maintain the primary point of contact relationship with the customer, Create and/or checking detail drawings based on general layouts, sketches and field measurements.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

The Project Manager reports to, and is accountable to, the Executive Director, Project Management Office.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION:

• Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Preferred: College degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, Business Administration or related field.

EXPERIENCE:

• Required: Minimum of 3 years or more as Project Manager of an equivalent metal fabrication related operation with a minimum of $3-4 million in annual sales.
• Preferred: 5-7 years of progressive growth as a Project Manager in metal fabrication.
• Must be proficient in AUTOCAD.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• This position will be working primarily indoors in a climate controlled, smoke free environment, but also requires the employee to be moving through other areas on a regular basis. From this movement, the employee will encounter varying temperatures from these areas. The normal auto and air travel hazards will apply. Travel will be in all types of weather including heavy rain and below freezing temperatures with snow conditions possible.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be higher in other areas or when visiting customers’ sites .

AUTHORITY:

The Project Manager is selected and appointed by the Executive Director, Project Management Office and has been delegated the authority required to successfully accomplish all the duties and responsibilities of this position.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Coordinate Work with In-house Shop and Outsource Vendors in Preparing Project Submittals.
• Coordinate, Write and Follow up on RFI’s.
• Work with In-house Shop on Project and Delivery Schedules. 
• Provide all Information to Procurement for the Purchase of Job-Related Materials.
• Write and Negotiate with Customer on Change Orders.
• Communicate with Steel Erector on any Field Erection Problems.

VALUE DRIVERS:

The Project Manager of Buhrt Engineering, Inc shall be deemed to be performing in an acceptable manner when the following have been accomplished:

• Maintain a 90% or greater accuracy rate on Quotes, Costing and Purchasing. 
• Obtain and confirm optimized nesting with Laser division before purchasing materials.
• Detailed Weekly report of active projects.
• 90-day projections of upcoming projects for planning purposes.
• Responsible to coordinated fabrications, Installation, startup and training of projects in conjunction with the Operations Manager and Shop Manager.
