The University of California San Diego is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Human Resource Generalist. Under the supervision of the Sr Director of Business Operations, the HR Generalist is responsible for the day-to-day administration of human resource services for the Athletics department focusing on casual, student and volunteer staff life cycle. Assist with Providing professional services and implementation of policies, programs and procedures related to: staffing & recruitment; employee/labor relations; compensation & classification; leaves/FMLA, phased retirement, personnel/payroll & benefits; worker's compensation; staff recognition & development & training; human resource information systems and records management. The Athletics Department consists of close to 400 employees (86 full-time, 140 part-time, 100 student employees and 60 volunteers) which include contract coaches, by-agreement and union represented employees.
The HR Generalist will follow the athletic philosophy consistent with that of the UC San Diego Athletic Department and NCAA, and a commitment to diversity in all of its forms.
Analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations; demonstrates organizational skills and problem-solving skills. Has working knowledge of other areas of HR. Experience conducting various personnel activities, such as recruitment selection, discipline, termination/layoff, collective bargaining agreements, employee relations, labor relations, performance appraisals, benefits administration, compensation, job description development, diversity, etc.
Basic knowledge of human resources policies and programs, and how they affect other organizational policies and procedures. Solid understanding in recruitment, performance management, compensation, payroll, benefits, affirmative action, visas, discipline, conflict resolution, and collective bargaining units.
Experience providing advice to leadership, supervisors, and employees on performance issues/concerns as well process and policy information.
Experience administering leaves of absence related to FMLA, CFRA, PDL. Knowledge of issues and procedures related to disability, accommodation and worker's compensation.
Knowledge of wage and hour laws, and other laws and regulations relating to employment, compensation, collective bargaining, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, EEO/AA and FLSA.
Experience with human resources management systems (HRMS), and / or other related business software programs and systems. Demonstrated ability in utilizing technology resources and computer applications such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Access), internet browsers.
Experience managing and coordinating department training program.
