Job description
Position Purpose and Impact
- The Aspira Solutions division Director of Software Architecture leads our software architecture team and technology transformation. Responsible for defining, designing, and implementing the overall software architecture for our products, incumbent will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that our software solutions meet both functional and non-functional requirements while aligning with our business objectives and technical vision.
Responsibilities
- Lead the software architecture and software application architect teams in defining, documenting, and maintaining the overall software architecture for our products.
- Lead technology transformation and improvement projects from concept to deployment working with multiple teams in the Product, Technology, Operations organizations.
- Collaborate with product managers, engineering teams, and other stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Drive the evolution of our software architecture to meet current and future needs, incorporating best practices, emerging technologies, and industry trends.
- Establish and enforce architectural standards, guidelines, and best practices to ensure consistency, scalability, and maintainability across our software products.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to software architects and engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Conduct architecture reviews, code reviews, and performance evaluations to ensure adherence to architectural principles and quality standards.
- Evaluate third-party components, libraries, and frameworks for integration into our software solutions, balancing technical considerations, licensing requirements, and business needs.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and communicate the company's technical vision, strategy, and roadmap.
- Promotes Aspira policies and procedures, the quality of its products and reputation, and consistently supports compliance and all applicable initiatives by maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of information, protecting the assets of the organization, acting with ethics and integrity.
- Supports the Engineering department and Solutions division by participating in relevant projects and priorities and competes with other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
- Expert knowledge of cloud-native design patterns and architectures.
- Expert knowledge of DevSecOps practices and tooling.
- Practical knowledge of data-driven applications and technologies to manage big data.
- Deep knowledge of the Amazon Web Services (AWS) ecosystem.
- Superior analytical skills and ability to use data and metrics to evaluate assumptions, make recommendations, and decisions.
- Superior problem-solving skills, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret market needs and translate them into requirements that can be used to inform technical designs.
- Ability to analyze new technologies, emerging standards, and market trends, to understand how they affect products today and in the future.
- Strong understanding of software architecture principles, design patterns, and architectural styles.
- Hands-on experience with a variety of programming languages, frameworks, and technologies.
- Possesses a strong leadership and partnering capabilities, with the ability to influence others without direct authority and appropriately push back when required.
- Ability to lead by example, creating a sense of energy, ownership, and personal commitment to the work.
- Proven ability to lead and work with geographically distributed engineering teams.
- Ability and willingness to mentor and transfer knowledge to junior and senior members of engineering teams.
- Executive level oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of the Outdoor Recreation domain – a great plus.
Desired Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or other related discipline; Master’s degree is preferred.
- Experience leading successful technology transformations including breaking up large monolith applications into API- based data-driven microservices.
- Experience navigating and participating in executive-level and client-facing meetings.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience defining system architecture and leading software architects.
- Minimum 7 years’ cumulative software development leadership at a director or above level.
- Significant experience as a software developer architecting and delivering large-scale distributed and cloud-enabled systems.
- Demonstrated track record of designing and implementing complex, scalable, and high-performance software systems.
- Experience in delivering multiple commercially deployed products to market.
Desired Hardware and Software Competency
- Advanced knowledge of Linux, Windows, and mobile operating systems.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel for financial modeling (e.g., budgeting), data analysis, and charting.
- Advanced knowledge of the Java and/or .NET ecosystems.
- Practical knowledge of Atlassian JIRA and Confluence.

- Visual Acuity: Close visual acuity to read and analyze data on a computer monitor.
- Hearing Ability: Must be able to communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and through electronic media.
- Manual Dexterity: Operation of a phone, keyboard, mouse, and general office equipment.
- Repetitive Motion: Regular and consistent use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and other computer-related tasks.
- Lifting and Carrying: Occasional lifting and carrying of office supplies and materials weighing up to 10 pounds.
- Sedentary Work and Body Position: The majority of work is performed while stationary or sitting at a desk or computer workstation. Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer are required. The ability to maintain the required body positions for extended periods, including sitting and using a computer is required. An ability to move within an office setting as well as departing and returning to a workstation punctually for assigned breaks periods is required.
