Job description
HRD has been engaged to place a VP of Accounting & Finance for a Credit Union in the North Atlanta area. Responsible for directing, coordinating, maintaining, and controlling the accounting and finance functions of the Credit Union. Serves as a key advisor to the CFO and Executive Management Team regarding the accounting and financial strategies. As a member of the Leadership Team, participates in implementing goals and objectives of the Credit Union, and serves as a resource in all accounting and finance aspects. Oversees the finance and accounting functions of the Credit Union. Provides leadership and coordination of the Company’s accounting and treasury activities, corporate liquidity planning, capital planning, and budgeting. Ensures that the Department supports the overall goals of the Credit Union, and that accounting and finance services are delivered professionally and efficiently.
RESPONSIBILITIES: - Participates in setting the strategic direction of Georgia United, particularly regarding accounting, balance sheet
- strategies and related risk management.
- Provides leadership to Department personnel through effective objective setting, delegation, and communication.
- Assists and supports Credit Union personnel. Responds to questions and information needs.
- Establishes, maintains, and monitors policies, procedures and internal controls as related to the Credit Union’s
- Accounting and Reporting, ALM and Investment policies. Ensures that policies are in accordance with evolving
- regulations, legal requirements, generally accepted accounting principles, and industry trends.
- Administers the budget management process, which includes the development of a budget implementation
- framework, the establishment of proper controls, the compilation of relevant budget information from all areas of
- the organization as well as budget negotiations, expense control, capital expenditures and performance tracking.
- Oversees the Credit Union’s investment portfolio and coordinates with the Director of Market Risk in the
- development of purchase and sale strategies, analyzing bond attributes and utilizing various risk management and
- total return techniques.
- Oversees audits of financial records and statements. Serve as liaison between the Credit Union and external auditors
- and assists on accounting related matters with the state and federal regulatory authorities.
- Oversees the corporate insurance coverage and appropriate risk levels for the Financial Institution Bond, D&O,
- Employment Practices, Property/Casualty and other special insurance categories.
- Serves as a member on the Company Sponsored Retirement Plan Investment Committee.
- Performs and oversees special projects that include merger & acquisition analytics, capital planning, market research,
- financial analysis, and other activities as assigned by CFO.
- Conducts performance reviews and coaches team members. Provides leadership through effective goal setting and
- communication.
- Promotes and establishes strong, positive and productive working relationships within the organization through
- commitment to the company’s purpose, mission and core values.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting preferred. CPA certification or MBA preferred.
- Minimum 10-15 years of financial management experience in financial institutions.
- Proven leadership and communication skills.
- Prior experience working with regulators, Executive Management, and outside auditors.
- Computer proficiency with MS Office, including Word PowerPoint, Internet, and Email with advanced proficiency in
- Excel. Proficient with Symitar (Jack Henry), accounting and budgeting/reporting software.

- Finance and accounting acumen including GAAP and industry-specific standards.
- Solid understanding of financial institution business including operations, procedures, and regulations.
- Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems.
- Excellent financial analysis and reporting skills along with risk management techniques.
- Strong knowledge of financial markets and the impact on credit union operations.
- Understanding of investments, lending operations and credit risk.
- Organized with ability to set priorities, multi-task and use time effectively while coaching other
