Job description
MMI Engineered Solutions is currently seeking Applications Engineers with plastics injection molding experience to join our Engineering Team. Creativity, as well as the ability to envision solutions to complex problems is mandatory. Summary of Position
The Applications Engineer is responsible for solution development and interface with our clients at many levels, as well as all functional areas of MMI. Creativity, as well as the ability to envision solutions to complex problems is mandatory. Complete understanding of part design standards, mold design standards, mold manufacturing standards, RFQ process, production quality, scheduling, and delivery, as well as industry standards are essential to the function of this position. Field supervision or service, plus travel up to 30% and special projects as required.
Essential Functions
- Quotation development includes plastic injection molded part design, mold design and construction, production molding including post molding operations, fixtures, and quality gauges.
- Interface with client to develop solutions with focus on weight reduction, cost reduction, improved performance, and functionality.
- Understand and document application driven issues and incorporate them into solutions.
- Original Engineering Drawing documentation and control.
- Approval, implementation, and monitoring of Engineering Changes Orders.
- Review and approve part design and 1st article/PPAP.
- Develop program cost.
- Provide creative and proactive leadership for concept development, part design, material selection, mold design, process engineering, and quality and assembly issues.
- Concept for engineering analysis, design process, mold, gauge, fixture, and manufacturing/assembly process.
- Approval, implementation, and monitoring of Engineering Changes Orders.
- Review and Approve Part Design and 1st article.
- Facilitate project Kick-off, Prototype Build, DFMEA, Mold Design Review, and engineering Schedule.
- Interface with client to develop new program timing and budgets solutions with focus on cost reduction, improved delivery performance and functionality.
- Develop program cost.
- Concept for engineering analysis, design process, mold, gauge, fixture, and manufacturing/assembly process.
- Also, special projects as required.
Qualifications
- BS mechanical Engineering or equivalent product design experience or BS Polymer Engineering with injection molding
- At least three (3) years of experience in design and/or manufacturing of tools used for complex molded components.
- Three (3) years of experience in the area of Plastic Injection Molding product design.
- Practice understanding of program management principles.
- Understanding of program control, tracking and measurement.
- Inherent grasp of mechanical engineering process.
- Experienced in complex application of FEA, MFA, and GD&T
- Advanced mechanical engineering knowledge.
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills and highly innovative.
- Expert problem-solving skill set.
- Data management and transfer skills.
- Excellent workload and time management skills.
- Complete understanding of Part Design Standards, Mold Design Standards, and Mold Manufacturing Standards, RFQ process - Design and Tooling quality - scheduling and delivery.
- Domestic OEM or transplant PLM process experience preferred.
