Shipping and Receiving Clerk

Job description
The Shipping & Packaging Clerk is responsible for expediting the movement of outgoing packages and freight. Packaging/crating of items that need to be shipped are some of the key responsibilities. The position reports to the Shipping Manager.
Job Responsibilities
- Unload and load various shipments via the use of a forklift or overhead crane. ยท
- Package/Crate products per company standards.
- As required, assist in determining the proper method of shipment and prepares bills of lading and other shipping documents.
- Estimates freight or postal rates and records shipment costs and weights.
- Examines shipment contents and compares with records such as manifests or orders to verify accuracy.
- Enters shipping information into a computer by hand or by a hand-held scanner that reads bar codes on goods.
- Assists in negotiating and arranging transport of goods with shipping or freight companies.
- Installs straps, braces, and padding to loads to prevent shifting or damage during shipment as required.
- Directs or participates in cargo loading to ensure completeness of load and even distribution of weight.
- Must be able to work independently with little supervision.
- Work with all other departments as required.
- Assist in maintaining the highest quality of product.
- Perform other miscellaneous job duties and related functions as directed.
