Job Title : Latin Teacher Grades 6th - 9th

Location : Ascent Classical Academy of Grand Junction (ACAGJ), Grand Junction, CO

FLSA Status : Exempt

Reports To : Dean of Upper School/Headmaster

Work days : M-F - School, work and professional development days

Compensation Range : $45,000 - $55,000 annually

Start Date : August 1, 2024*

*Please note all teachers will need to be able to attend teacher training in Hillsdale, MI, for up to 10 days in June. Travel to the conference, as well as lodging and food, are covered by ACAGJ and Hillsdale.

Position Summary

At Ascent Classical Academy of Grand Junction, teachers create their lessons within the framework set by our content-rich curriculum in collaboration with colleagues and partnership with Hillsdale College's Barney Charter School Initiative. Teachers are dedicated to mastering the key elements of their instruction and to their students' intellectual and moral betterment. ACAGJ is seeking a Latin teacher for 6th- 9th grades.

At Ascent Classical Academies, Latin is a required course in grades six through eight, and high-school students must take a full year of Latin to graduate. Students will study Latin using Lingua Latina and Learn to Read Latin. Often, students will take Latin through their senior year.

Required Skills/Abilities

• Bachelor's Degree
• Strong background in the Latin language, having majored in classics, classical history, or a related discipline with substantial coursework in Latin
• Eligibility to work in the United States
• Satisfactory background check is required by state law and Colorado Department of Education
• Conviction in the values of a rigorous liberal arts education
• Loyalty to Ascent Classical Academy Charter Schools, Inc.'s (ACACS) mission and vision and c ommitment to model moral character in line with the school's core virtues
• Adherence to all ACACS policies, including but not limited to the Employee Handbook, Family Handbook, and all applicable school and board policies
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
• Proven ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment
• Creative problem-solving skills
• Willingness to perform other related duties as necessary, i.e., t each other subjects related to the classics (e.g., literature, history, Greek, or another foreign language)

Preferred skills/abilities:

• Master's Degree is a bonus but not required
• School Experience
• A teacher's license is not required/preferred
• Taught other subjects related to the classics (e.g., literature, history, Greek, or another foreign language)

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer or standing to teach
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
• Must be able to traverse the classroom and adjust one's tone and height by bending or leaning in order to teach each child

Ascent Classical Academy Charter Schools, Inc. (ACACS) is a network of public charter schools in Colorado comprised of four campuses. The governing Board of Directors at ACACS has contracted with Minga Education Group (MEG) to provide employment services for all staff at ACACS.
