Classification Summary:
Locate underground cables, pipes and other conduits to prevent damage during excavations.Install, calibrate, troubleshoot and repair the instrumentation and controls.

Classification Standard Duties:
Utilize site plans, area maps and blueprints to locate underground high-voltage electrical cables, water lines, sewer lines, steam lines, gas lines, telephone and other communication lines, as well as duct banks and electric/water/gas taps to buildings; Utilize site plans, area maps, blueprints, computer mapping database and other location information along with conduit-location equipment to locate conduits, update records using field findings; Indicate conduit locations and communicate other relevant information to excavation personnel or other appropriate authorities, attend coordination meetings at project sites to discuss and plan service outages; Maintain accurate records of work time and client identities to allow proper assignment of charge code. Transport location equipment and supplies to assigned sites, clean and maintain location equipment; Under direct supervision, installs, maintains, calibrates, troubleshoots, and repairs the instrumentation and controls used in the production, operation, maintenance, and administration of the University's utility equipment, including gas turbine generators, high-pressure boilers, electric and steam chillers and their associated support and automation systems. Identifies malfunctions of instruments and control systems and assists upper level technicians in taking the necessary steps to repair equipment. Monitors the University's Energy Management and Control System, and works with other utility technicians to ensure reliable, continuous production of utility services campus-wide. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Education, Experience, Certification/License, Equivalency
Required Education: High School diploma or GED certificate.; Required Experience: Two (2) years of experience related to the standard duties as outlined.; Equivalency: Completion of a post-secondary degree or certificate may substitute for years of experience.; Required Certification/License:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of building analysis and program design; Knowledge of methods and techniques used to locate, plan and design utilities; Knowledge of surveying practices and procedures; Knowledge of Geographical Information Systems (GIS); state regulations pertaining to underground utilities.; SKILLS: Skill in the operation of survey and utility locating equipment; skill in the use of drafting tools and basic hand tools. Use of personal computers and related automation and utility software applications; ABILITIES: Extensive ability to draw, read blueprints and draft various illustrations; communicate orally, graphically and in writing; follow oral and written instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates; assign work and meet prescribed deadlines. Calibrate, test, and maintain a variety of electrical and electronic devices. Read and interpret electrical, electronic, and mechanical schematics, Interpret electrical, electronic, and mechanical schematics, blueprints, and drawings. Maintain, repair and/or modify electrical, electronic, thermal, mechanical, and/or pneumatic control systems. Ability to read, understand and follow, and enforce safety procedures.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Independently provide operational support for the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system for all utility production equipment. Programs, maintains and troubleshoots the University's Energy Management and Control System (EMCS). Trains, commissions and oversees installation work of lower level technicians. Collaborates with other technicians within the facility to ensure the continuity and reliability of utility services and building automation systems campus-wide.

Environment: Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.

Lifting Requirements: Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
