Job description
With supervisor approval, incumbents may be eligible for intermittent remote work; however, they must physically reside within the Sacramento region or have the ability to regularly report to a City of Sacramento physical worksite with little notice.
THE POSITION
The Integrated Waste General Supervisor provides leadership and management of the Recycling and Solid Waste Division of the City of Sacramento's Department of Public Works. The incumbent is responsible for overseeing day to day operations of the City's Solid Waste collection, including garbage, recycling, green waste, street sweeping, container inventory, delivery, and maintenance services. The position is also responsible for overseeing division programs which includes appointment-based household junk pickup, seasonal leaf collection, and illegal dumping pickup.

The Integrated Waste General Supervisor plans, organizes, and directs the work of Integrated Waste supervisors, refuse collection and street cleaning personnel; prepares, reviews, and approves work and time reports submitted on subordinate personnel; confers with supervisors; and assists in developing plans and procedures relating to the refuse collection and street cleaning programs.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is one of two supervisory positions in Recycling and Solid Waste Division of the Department of Public Works. This classification is distinguished from the Integrated Waste Collections Superintendent in that the latter has overall coordination, planning, and supervision for the collections functions and operational activities, whereas the Integrated Waste General Supervisors assume responsibility over specific functional areas of solid waste collection.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Direction is provided by a higher-level position. Responsibilities include the direct supervision of Integrated Waste Supervisors and indirect supervision of Integrated Waste Equipment Operators and other lower-level field personnel.

3. Screening Committee: (Pass/Fail) - All applications received by the final filing deadline will be forwarded to the hiring department for review. The hiring department will select the most competitive applications for further consideration. Human Resources will only evaluate employment applications for the minimum qualifications, as stated on the job announcement, for applications selected by the hiring department.
4. Interview Process: Human Resources will forward applications to the hiring department. Those determined to be the most qualified candidates will be invited to participate in an interview process.
5. Conditional Hire: Upon receipt of a conditional offer, the selected candidate must complete and pass Live Scan/fingerprinting. If applicable, candidates may also need to pass a pre-employment medical exam, controlled substance and/or alcohol test, and possess any required licensure or certification prior to receiving a start date from the Department. Failure to meet these prerequisites will be grounds for withdrawal of your conditional offer of employment.
