JOB TITLE: 

Assistant Director for Neltje Center for Excellence in Creativity and the Arts in Sheridan, Wyoming.

JOB PURPOSE: 

To support the Director in carrying out the strategic plan of the Neltje Center

About the Neltje Center
The University of Wyoming launched the Neltje Center for Excellence in Creativity and the Arts (Neltje Center) in December 2022. The Neltje Center is an initiative within the College of Arts and Sciences engaged in instruction, creative activity, research, collaboration, and related service. The Neltje Center provides a platform to link higher education with the arts and humanities, including in one of the most scenic locations in the country, Sheridan, Wyoming. The Neltje Center connects the arts to other disciplines through partnerships, programming, and collaborations. The center is named after Neltje, a renowned painter and philanthropist who, in 2001, also founded the Jentel Artist Residency. The Center provides opportunities for UW students in visual arts, creative writing, the performing arts and other disciplines to develop their practice and expand their entrepreneurial skills. These opportunities will include residencies, workshops, and concerts as well as chances to engage with world-class artists, writers, and performers. Beyond these locations, the Neltje Center is poised to create and support activities that are statewide, regional, national, and virtual and that support the continued development of a robust creative economy throughout the state.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

External Relations, Advocacy, and Community Engagement
* Serve as a public spokesperson for the Neltje Center; give tours of the Neltje Center and Jentel residency program.
* Identify and foster opportunities and partnerships that will raise awareness and appreciation for the Neltje Center and the University of Wyoming.
* Build strong relationships with community partners, artists, cultural organizations, and public agencies.
* Advocate for the Neltje Center mission and promote the organization's impact on the local, regional and state-wide cultural ecosystems.
* Assist in development and implementation of a marketing and social media plan for the Neltje Center.
* Become informed about Neltje's history and her contributions as an artist, entrepreneur, philanthropist and her important role in the fields of arts and culture in Wyoming.
Program and Event Planning
* Assist with management and scheduling of the UW faculty/student mini-residencies program.
* Coordinate logistics between UW entities and onsite Neltje Center and Jentel staff.
* Assist in planning for visiting artists, writers, dancers, musicians, etc.
* Coordinate outside contractors for events and programs (caterers, housekeeping services, etc.) at the Neltje Center.
Fundraising & Revenue Generation
* Work with the Executive Director to identify funding sources (private, foundation, corporate).
* Maintain schedules of annual grant deadlines and participate in grant writing process.
* Help identify and cultivate individual donors.
* Assist in strategizing about prospects for earned income.
* Identify and cultivate local/regional funding sources.
Administrative Responsibilities
* Assist the Executive Director in managing annual budgets, funding accounts, expenses, and contracts.
* Update and manage the Neltje Center calendar.
* Handle email correspondence with colleagues, faculty partners, collaborators, visiting artists, etc.
* Track and organize all post-visit reports, feedback, photos, etc. for UW mini-residencies.
* Manage Neltje Center website and ensure updates are made in a timely fashion.
* Manage and regularly update Neltje Center mailing list, database of donors and partner organizations, and other online file systems.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Assistant Director position is an upper-level management position that reports to the Executive Director of the Neltje Center. The position has primary responsibilities to the Neltje Center and its programming which includes working closely with existing Neltje Center initiatives: the Jentel Artist Residency, and the UW Faculty/Student Mini Residencies Program, the Visiting Artist Program, as well as new programs and initiatives as they develop. The Assistant Director's role is to support the Executive Director in carrying out the strategic plan of the Neltje Center, assist with all initiatives and programs, plan and manage events, work with visiting artists, liaison with other Neltje Center staff, assist in all fundraising efforts and grant writing, and be the primary staff member onsite in the Sheridan/Banner area to represent the Neltje Center for tours, talks, presentations, and visits when the Executive Director is not present as well as when events and functions require all senior level staff to be present. The Assistant Director will also undertake, at the direction of the Executive Director, some duties associated with management of the Jentel Foundation artist residency, a major program of the Neltje Center, as well as participating in the Neltje Center's role in the building and strengthening of Wyoming's creative economy.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY: 

This is a full-time position with a combination of onsite and remote work responsibilities
