Shielding Installation Mechanics are required to cut, fit and install plastic shielding to support submarine construction. This work requires a talented crafts-person with an aptitude to learn and the ability to visualize a job from start to finish. The mechanics will receive job specific training and will receive qualification to perform each process after a demonstration of ability.
Work includes cutting and fitting shielding using carpentry tools such as band-saws, table saws, planers, jointers, routers, undercut saws . And various pneumatic tools such as handheld chipping hammers, grinders, nail guns and burr tools. Applicants will be required to read and interpret plans and shipyard procedures.
This position is located at the Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI location.
Responsibilities - Applicant will be required to work in a collaborative and team environment and meet organizational goals.
- Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Qualifications Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 1 plus years of related experience and/or 1 plus years of shipyard experience
- Basic mathematical skills
- Able to work all shifts, in confined spaces and extreme temperature conditions as required
- Able to qualify for ET / Poly installation
- Individuals are required to possess their own basic hand tools
Preferred:
- Vocational, Technical and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs
- Ability to interpret shipyard procedures, drawings, technical manuals, test documents and diagrams desired
- Previous experience in carpentry, auto body
- Applicants currently possessing shielding qualifications
- Previous experience working in the construction industry or a manufacturing environment
- Military/Navy experience
