Description CLASS SUMMARY : This is the first of five levels in the Accounting series. Incumbents compile, review, track, and correct financial data, and prepare routine financial reports. Responsibilities may include updating spreadsheets; reviewing data for errors and initiating corrections; compiling and entering data; processing payroll; completing month and year end closing processes; reconciling assigned ledgers, bank statements and/or reports; completing journal entries; and preparing and reviewing standard reports. ***PLEASE NOTE: THIS POSITION WILL REMAIN OPEN THROUGH MARCH 14, 2024, OR UNTIL FILLED.*** Example of Duties
TYPICAL CLASS ESSENTIAL DUTIES : (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.) - Compiles, processes, reviews, reconciles, and corrects financial data; resolves discrepancies. Completes month and year end closing processes. Prepares basic financial reports.
- Identifies variances in financial data from one time frame to another, researches reasons for variances and recommends solutions.
- Prepares financial forecasts and basic financial reports.
- Responds to questions regarding the financial information of assigned department function.
- Enters data into databases and related files.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Typical Qualifications
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require): Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field and one year accounting experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above. LICENSING REQUIREMENTS (positions in this class typically require): Licensing Requirements: KNOWLEDGE (position requirements at entry): Knowledge of: - Accounting principles, practices, and procedures;
- Budget forecasting practices;
- Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP);
- Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) principles;
- Applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations;
- Report preparation techniques;
- Computers and related software applications.
SKILLS (position requirements at entry): Skill in: - Applying accounting principles and practices;
- Reading, comprehending, and analyzing financial statements;
- Preparing journal entries;
- Monitoring and reviewing a ledger;
- Organizing, evaluating, and presenting financial data;
- Applying Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations;
- Computers and related software applications;
- Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
