Title: Assistant Professor - Information Technology/Cybersecurity

General Summary: The Information Technology (IT) Faculty is a creative, flexible, learning-centered, and knowledgeable individual who will develop and teach IT courses with a primary focus on Cybersecurity within the STEM division. The faculty member will have experience with Networking and Cybersecurity and will work with the Dean of STEM and other faculty to maintain and enhance the Information Technology certificates and degrees. In addition to teaching duties, the member will assist with program assessments, participate in college service, and advise students. The faculty member must be committed to promoting inclusivity, supporting diversity, and continuous professional improvement.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and teach courses in information technology, particularly in networking and cyber security, many with extensive lab components. Specific courses may include Networking, Cybersecurity, Network Security, Virtualization and Cloud Infrastructure, and Ethical Hacking.
- Participate on the Information Technology Advisory Board, and assist in industry outreach.
- Participate in ongoing curriculum review, assessment, and development.
- Develop instructional material consistent with the course, program, and institutional student learning outcomes.
- Develop and apply pedagogy that engages a diverse student body with varying learning styles, backgrounds, and abilities, and promotes critical thinking, lifelong learning, and other employability skills.
- Develop and apply assessment strategies that maximize the learning process and effectively measure student learning outcomes.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to recruit, advise, and retain students and assist in community and industry outreach.
- Embrace the evolving nature of Information Technology and Cybersecurity, remain current with industry trends and needs, and incorporate that knowledge into the curriculum.
- Utilize high-impact practices such as capstone courses and collaborative projects as part of pedagogical practices.
- Participate in division and college committees and activities.
- Support and foster a culture of civic learning and community engagement.
- Teach classes and attend meetings on both MCC campuses.
- Develop and apply technology in and out of the classroom, including the use of the Blackboard Learning Management System and the NDG NetLab system.
- Work collegially with faculty from all different disciplines.
- Advise students on course selection and career pathways.
- Fulfill terms of the faculty contract as set out in the Agreement between the Board of Higher Education and the Massachusetts Community College Council/Massachusetts Teachers Association.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in computing technology or Information Technology or a closely related field, OR Bachelor's Degree in computing technology or a closely related field with equivalent cybersecurity experience within the field of computer science or information technology.
- Successful teaching or training experience, preferably in Information Technology and Cybersecurity at the post-secondary level
- Possession of the Cisco Network Academy Instructor certification or a commitment to undergo the training after hiring, with all training expenses covered by the College
- Committed to integrating real-life applications of IT and employability skills into the curriculum.
- Dedicated to continuous professional improvement.
- Applies innovative instructional approaches to achieve stated course objectives and student learning outcomes.
- Ability to collaborate with faculty from different disciplines and different academic institutions.
- Proven proficiency in using both oral and written communication effectively.
- Experience with equity-minded work and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, and veterans including those with different levels of academic preparation and with varying physical and learning abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Additional related industry experience and industry certifications, particularly related to network and cyber security, such as a CCNA R&S, CCENT, CCNA CyberOps, or CCNA Security, Google IT Support, CEH qualification to teach CCNA R&S: Intro to Networks, CCNA R&S: Routing and Switching Essentials, CCNA CyberOPS.
- Successful teaching experience at a community college.
- Experience in using, and/or managing and maintaining Cisco, VMware, and other necessary Lab activities.
- Openness to interdisciplinary instruction, and ability to work collegially with faculty from different disciplines.
- Experience using high-impact practices such as learning communities, capstone courses, undergraduate research, and collaborative projects as part of pedagogical practices.
- Experience developing courses, curricula, and academic programs.
- Experience with a variety of in-person and online instructional methods, and willingness to develop and teach online courses.
- Student advising experience.
- Bilingual skills.
Additional Information: Please note, the faculty rank of Assistant Professor may be subject to change in accordance with Article XVII of the MCCC Collective Bargaining Agreement.
The Assistant Professor - Information Technology/Cybersecurity is tenure track eligible in accordance with Article XI of the MCCC Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Salary Range: $68,192 is the starting salary for Column H under the MCCC 2022 Salary grid for an Assistant Professor rank; actual salary commensurate with academic background and experience.
