Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

The Arts and Sciences Foundation strives to enhance the College of Arts and Sciences by meeting the needs of the various academic departments, promoting teaching, research and service, and supporting the continuing development of knowledge and learning. Position Summary:

As a member of this valued team, the director of development will supervise a minimum of two (2) associate and/or assistant directors of development at the Arts and Sciences Foundation who are responsible for the identification, cultivation and solicitation of Arts and Sciences major and leadership annual giving prospects. This position will work collaboratively with the assistant and associate directors of development to develop fundraising strategies that support the top funding priorities for departments and programs in undergraduate education, the social sciences, fine arts and humanities and the natural sciences. The position will ensure that each assistant or associate director of development has the tools and resources necessary to fulfill their job responsibilities as outlined in their annual work plans.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with related experience. For positions with responsibility for direct solicitation of gifts and funds, a minimum of 3 years of professional-level, direct solicitation/fundraising experience is required.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

A minimum of three years of development experience required. Successful track record in soliciting and closing principal and major gifts-whether outright or deferred-as well as campaign experience is required. Excellent interpersonal, organizational and presentation skills are required. Superior written and verbal communication skills required. Strong leadership skills required. Working knowledge of computer-related office tools and database management is required.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Experience in a university or large college setting is preferred. Demonstrated supervisory experience of fundraising staff preferred.
