Department Background
The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences is a pioneer of purpose-driven science and Cornell University's second largest college. The questions we probe and the answers we seek focus on three overlapping concerns: natural and human systems; food, energy and environmental resources; and social, physical and economic well-being.
This full time appointment will provide technical support to a project on Biomonitoring in the Great Lakes funded by the Environmental Protection Agency. The workplace is at the Cornell Biological Field Station located in Bridgeport New York. The mission is to conduct research in fisheries and aquatic ecology and to support the educational, outreach and extension programs of the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and Cornell University.

Assist with limnological and invertebrate field and laboratory studies in the Great Lakes. Perform zooplankton analyses strictly adhering to standard operating procedures and QA/QC . Field work includes up to two months per year on board the EPA research vessel the Lake Guardian. Assist in overall laboratory maintenance, including ordering supplies and maintaining stocks, equipment maintenance and maintaining inventory. Assist supervisor in developing reports, papers and publications based on data collected, including preparations of graphics. Provide assistance to undergraduate and graduate students for special research projects including zooplankton counts. Perform basic library and internet searches to support ongoing and future research projects. Provide advice and protocols of specific procedures or standard practices to graduate and undergrad students. Direction and training are provided by the Cornell Office of Occupational & Environmental Health in the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences. Must have and maintain a valid driver's license. Driver background check is required.
This is a one-year term appointment with possible extension depending on performance and funding.
