Job description

The Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute (VGTI) at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) has assembled a multidisciplinary team of scientists to respond to serious viral disease threats, including AIDS, chronic viral infection-associated diseases, newly emerging viral diseases and infectious diseases of the elderly. Our programs are intended to span the continuum between basic and clinical science, in which discoveries are rapidly advanced from the level of molecular and cellular biology through animal models and ultimately into clinical testing. The development of this unique program in immunology and virology provides an important training opportunity for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows at OHSU. This is why an important part of our mission is the training of young scientists in newer academic disciplines emerging at the Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute.

The Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute (VGTI), located at the West Campus of Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), has assembled a multidisciplinary team of scientists to respond to serious infectious disease threats, including AIDS, tuberculosis, chronic viral infection-associated diseases, newly emerging infectious diseases, and infectious diseases of the elderly. The successful candidate will support ongoing and newly funded research projects of the Labriola Laboratory and collaborating investigators at the VGTI and ONPRC, with a focus on non-human primate (NHP) models of infectious disease. The Labriola Laboratory has a strong emphasis on experimental pathology, and a Research Assistant 2 will contribute to post-mortem prosection, sample collection, and image capture at necropsy. The applicant may work in concert with other laboratory staff on the West Campus to accomplish a variety of hands-on procedures with NHPs such as collecting and processing tissues, phlebotomy, administrating experimental compounds/ anti-retroviral drugs/ medications, and monitoring of NHPs during procedures as dictated by study design. They may provide technical and administrative support for a range of projects, prepare data sets and reports, coordinate with surgical and clinical teams, and regulatory documentation as applicable. They will be responsible for general lab support duties, including maintenance of laboratory supplies/ equipment, sample collection preparation, sample storage and organization, and sanitation. Prior relevant experience is considered beneficial, though training for specific projects and procedures will be provided.
