The Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa is seeking a Communications Coordinator at the University of Iowa’s Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center will play a pivotal role in enhancing internal communications within our organization by managing and curating content for the center's intranet. This position involves message development and implementation, information management, supporting internal events and initiatives, and managing the center's social media platforms (for example, Facebook and LinkedIn). The position requires strong communication skills, a keen attention to detail, and a passion for facilitating effective communication within the cancer center.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement of both on-campus (UIHC) and remote work within the state of Iowa upon completion of a training period, with the majority of work taking place on the U of I/UIHC campus. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location .

Duties to include:

1. Message Development and Implementation:

• Develop and implement internal communication strategies to inform and engage staff regarding center initiatives, achievements, and organizational updates.
• Create and curate content for the center's intranet, ensuring that it aligns with the center's messaging and goals.
• Accurately research, organize, and interpret information to support content creation and messaging.
• Collaborate with colleagues to review and ensure the quality, accuracy, and relevance of internal communications.
• Create effective content that enables a spirit of collaboration among different divisions/departments; create internal communications that aim to bridge gaps, facilitate information flow, and ensure that everyone involved in the HCCC is on the same page.

2. Internal Communications:

• Identify key stakeholders within the cancer center's internal community, including staff, researchers, and healthcare professionals.
• Collaborate with departments and teams to gather and disseminate internal news, updates, staff recognition, press ganey information, and announcements.
• Maintain the intranet platform, ensuring it is up-to-date and user-friendly for all staff members.
• Support the planning and execution of internal events, such as staff meetings, training sessions, and employee recognition programs.
• Foster strong relationships with internal stakeholders to ensure effective communication and information sharing.

3. Information Management:

• Create and manage tools for gathering feedback from staff, measuring the impact of internal communications, and assessing employee satisfaction.
• Collect, analyze, and report on data related to the performance of internal communications to improve internal communications and reaching intended internal audiences.
• Assist in the maintenance and organization of internal communications databases and resources.

4. Social Media Management:

• Manage and curate content for the center's social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
• Implement social media strategies to enhance the center's online presence, engagement, and outreach.
• Monitor social media channels, respond to inquiries, and engage with the online community.
• Collaborate with the UI Health Care MarCom team to align social media content with overall messaging and objectives.
• Analyze social media metrics to measure the effectiveness of campaigns and adjust strategies accordingly.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field; or a combination of education and experience.
• Proven experience in communications, internal communications, or a related role, with a preference for experience in healthcare or nonprofit organizations.
• Exceptional writing, editing, and content creation skills, with an emphasis on tailoring content for internal audiences.
• Proficiency in managing intranet platforms and familiarity with content management systems (CMS).
• Strong research and analytical skills to support data-driven communication strategies.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
• Ability to work independently and within a dynamic organizational environment.
• A commitment to upholding the values and mission of the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Desirable Qualifications

• Healthcare Industry (and/or Cancer-related) Knowledge: Familiarity with the healthcare (and/or cancer care) industry, medical terminology, and healthcare trends, which can help in crafting accurate and relevant content.
• Certifications: Possession of relevant certifications in communications, public relations, social media management, or related fields can demonstrate commitment and expertise.
• Community Engagement Experience: Experience in community engagement initiatives, volunteer work, or nonprofit organizations, showcasing a commitment to the center's mission and community outreach.
• Project Management Skills: Strong project management skills to efficiently manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
