JOB SUMMARY
MEB Weld Technician will provide support, leadership and direction to the Maintenance Technicians and perform controls function for the Assembly Maintenance Department. The Assembly Weld Technician will support and carry out the assignments and responsibilities given them by the Controls & Robotics Engineering Manager or his/her designees and you shall devote your full time, skill and attention to the business of the Company.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In general, ensure the achievement of OEE targets for the individual Business Units.
- Work very closely with the Weld Engineers to support the various welding activities at Gestamp.
- Responsible for supporting safety, quality, and productivity while adhering to Gestamp's plant standards.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and provide continuous improvement suggestions resulting in minimal downtime of manufacturing equipment in the assembly area.
- Support installation and modification of equipment to ensure quality control requirements are met and process enhancements are realized.
- Follow and enforce all plant safety rules and policies.
- Follow and comply with all operational procedures/policies as stated in the employee Environmental Health and Safety programs.
- Set up weld equipment/machinery by installing/testing weld tips, fixtures, tooling and other parts as required.
- Performs general/preventative maintenance on equipment to ensure acceptable weld quality standards and start-up requirements.
- Cleans and changes weld tips/weld set-ups.
- Perform duties of an Assembly Maintenance Technician.
- Responsible for programming of welding programs/stepper programs.
- Responsible to document necessary changes made to weld schedules.
- Perform Weld Failure Investigations and trouble-shoot and/or make necessary adjustments to attain acceptable welds.
- Complete the process by follow-up with UT/Destruct group.
- Reviews weld tips to ensure proper tip dress and cap face size.
- Basic robotics operation.
- Basic electrical circuit troubleshooting.
- Responsible for keeping adequate quantities of all resistance-welding supplies stocked on the lines.
- Provides technical support for a specific welding system during the introduction of new models.
- Proactively supports/initiates corrective measures to weld control issues.
- Ensure new parts get ordered when necessary (e.g. new tips, tip holders, cables and water tubes).
- Return unused parts back to the tool crib to keep the correct stock levels once troubleshooting is complete.
- Attend meetings as needed.
- Update verification forms when needed.
- May be required to Rotate Shifts.
- Practice good housekeeping on the shop floor and in assembly cells.
- Deal with vendors both parts suppliers and equipment suppliers.
- Supervise the assembly and installation as well as assemble and installs new equipment and is able to make modifications to existing equipment as requested.
- Responsible to train new Maintenance Technicians in equipment and safety as assigned.
- Set up preventative maintenance procedures on mechanical equipment for the Assembly Dept. as laid out by the manufacturer's specifications.
- Maintain maintenance Quality standards and preventative/ predictive maintenance program for the Assembly Dept. to insure compliance with QS9000 Requirements.
- Maintain safety standards of equipment in work area.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- BS: Electrical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or other technical discipline plus 3 years of automated manufacturing technical experience required.
- AS: Electronics Technology plus 5 years of automated manufacturing technical experience required.-or- 7+ years' experience and training in a similar role and environment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to read and interpret manufacturing drawings.
- Ability to use measurement tools.
- Minimum of 1 year of Fanuc or two years of other robot experience required.
- Minimum of 1 year of spot and Mig welding either manual or in automated assembly manufacturing
- Ability to work in a team-based lean-manufacturing environment.
- Capable in necessary computer use and computer software to perform job.
