GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK
Under the supervision of the Chief Operations Officer, the Director II - Leadership Development develops, monitors and coordinates the district's leadership development plan that includes training and development opportunities for aspiring, novice, and experienced teacher leaders, school administrators, and district-based administrators that is consistent with the vision and mission of the district and focuses on student achievement. This includes developing, leading, and managing the aspiring leader programs for the division, including Teacher Leadership, Aspiring Assistant Principals Program, and Aspiring Principals Program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Designs and coordinates delivery of leadership professional development to ensure current instructional staff and aspiring administrators have the knowledge and skills to be successful in their jobs and prepared for career pathways.
- Develops the selection criteria for each leadership program and oversees the selection process for the participants, using the definitions of leader excellence as a guide.
- Monitors the quality of leadership development programming by collecting, analyzing, and responding to data to ensure expectations of the program are being
- Oversees and facilitates the professional learning experiences for cohorts of developing leaders using research-based best practices.
- Manages the process for budgeting for resources to meet the needs for identified leadership training and development activities.
- Collaborates with other division leaders to develop ideas, proposals, and meaningful learning experiences for aspiring leadership participants.
- Coordinates recruitment and retention efforts with the Department of Human Resources to ensure highly qualified candidates are available to serve in the capacity of school and district leaders.
- Monitors state and national issues and trends related to school
- Maintains effective and consistent communication with stakeholders related to District, state, and national initiatives.
- Provides input and support to division leadership regarding prioritization of professional development needs, evaluation of professional development for administrators, teachers in aspiring leadership programs, and reviews of current
- Facilitate opportunities for aspiring leaders across school sites to collaborate and learn from current school and division leaders.
- Collaborates with the other division departments (finance, curriculum and Instruction, operations, human resources, etc.) in seeking grant funding to support leadership development.
- Identifies successful leadership development programs and forge partners that align to the definitions of leader excellence and the division's strategic plan.
- Maintains contact with other external entities and professional organizations in the area of leadership development (school divisions, Virginia Department of Education, governmental agencies, Institutions of Higher Education, etc.).
- Performs other duties as needed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE - Graduation from an accredited undergraduate program in education, organizational development, school leadership, or related field
- Master's degree required
- Minimum of five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in education administration and/or leadership
- Valid, appropriate licensure is preferred
- Combination of education and experience may suffice for the above
PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND WORK CONTACTS Work is typically performed in an office and/or school setting.. Occasional walking, lifting up to 25 lbs., and other limited physical activities are required. Regular attendance of school and other City activities requires travel throughout the City. Department needs require working beyond normal work hours. Daily contact is made with employees and the general public in person, by telephone, and in writing. These contacts may require considerable skill in negotiation, tact, and diplomacy and persuasion. Occasional contact with Local Elected Officials and School Board members is necessary.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT 12 months (260 days); at least 8 hours per day
