Job description
The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 musician with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:
1.1 Position: Catholic Worship Musician
1.2 Background: The services of a Catholic Musician Contract falls under the Installation
Chaplain’s Religious Support Program as defined in the Commander’s Master Religious Program (CMRP). The mission of the Chaplain’s Religious Support Program is to provide military religious support activities that meet the religious requirements of Soldiers, Families, and authorized civilians. The Catholic program meets this need and contributes to the spiritual well-being of the command by fostering the moral, spiritual, and social development of soldiers and their families. The goal of the Catholic Community program is to provide a basic religious understanding of life events through fellowship activities, worship and sacrament in the community. The need for a Catholic Musician Contract, as part of religious education is outlined in AR 165-1. As an independent non-personal services Musician, the Catholic Musician Musician is not a member of the Chaplain’s Staff.
1.3 Objectives: The Catholic Musician Musician will provide traditional and contemporary Catholic worship music.
1.4 Scope: The Musician shall provide appropriate musical support during all Catholic mass conducted in the Fort Polk, JRTC Area of Responsibility.. The purpose of the Musician is to provide instrumental music to assist the congregation in worship.
1.5. Hours of Operation: The Musician shall be responsible for conducting business during Catholic mass, meetings and events. This would normally be evening and weekend hours. The Musician may be required to provide services on holidays except when the Government facility is closed due to local or national emergencies, administrative closings, or similar
Government directed facility closings. The Musician must at all times maintain an adequate workforce for the uninterrupted performance of all tasks defined within this PWS when the Government facility is not closed for the above reasons. When hiring personnel, the Musician shall keep in mind that the stability and continuity of the workforce are essential.
1.6. Place of Performance: The work to be performed under this contract will be at the Main Post chapel or other installation chapel facilities. Services rendered under this contract will provide for Catholic Community ministry throughout the military community of Fort Polk.
The Government will provide the Musician accesses to chapel facilities, and any other facilities within the Fort Polk community as determined by the Installation Chaplain, which are suitable for conducting Catholic services.
2. Specific Tasks:
2.1. Basic Services. The Catholic Musician Musician shall provide musician support during Sunday Eucharist at Main Post Chapel (MPC). The Musician shall arrive at least one-half hour prior to worship start time to coordinate prior to all services conducted. This shall allow the Catholic Musician to conduct necessary arrangements prior to mass. The prelude shall begin 12 minutes prior to Mass/Ceremony start time. The postlude shall continue at least 10 minutes past the conclusion of the Mass or Ceremony. The schedules of Eucharist Services are as follows:
2.1.1. Catholic Mass Sunday at 9 am at Main Post Chapel (MPC) and weekly rehearsals are one hour per week at a time TBD.
2.1.2. Funeral or Memorial Ceremony/services as required.
2.1.3. Special Mass and Days of Obligation as required.
2.2. The Musician shall play the KEYBOARD/PIANO for one hour as accompaniment for mass and choir and/or worship team rehearsals. Day and time may change due to circumstances.
2.3. The Musician shall provide any music or hymn page numbers to the NCOIC and Catholic Chaplain no later than close of business Tuesday for any program that must be printed for the weekend.
2.4. The Musician shall notify the Catholic Chaplain and the COR concerning any maintenance problems or requests concerning the instrument(s) of the chapel facility no later than the Tuesday following the discovered problem.
2.5. The Musician and employees shall be cognizant of utility conservation practices. The Musician shall be responsible for operating under conditions to preclude the waste of utilities.
2.6. The Musician shall dress in a style appropriate to the worship setting.
2.7. Qualifications. Musician shall have:
2.7.1. The ability to sight read sheet music for sacred music in a manner that produces appropriate tempo and tone for worship and song on piano or keyboard.
2.7.2. The ability to satisfactorily play all selections in the Armed Forces Hymnal and other hymnals and/or songbooks designated by the Chaplain.
2.7.3. The ability to communicate in English for coordination with the Chaplain and/or his/her designated Worship Leader and for satisfactory completion of the administrative tasks required of a musician.
2.8. The Musician shall be responsible for ensuring that a qualified substitute (IAW PWS paragraph 2.7.) is available to perform the contracted services IAW this PWS. However, in such case, the substitute shall have no claim whatsoever against the Government for services rendered and the price to be paid the substitute shall be a matter entirely between the Musician and the substitute.
2.8.1. In the event that a substitute is required to perform in the absence of the Musician, the Musician shall provide to the COR and the KO the following information: Name and contact information. This information shall be provided 2 days prior to the substitution. Only the KO is authorized to grant any exception to this deadline.
