Senior Maintenance Mechanic

The Cornell University campus is widely admired as one of the world's most beautiful academic settings. Facilities Management (FM) provides maintenance, grounds, and custodial services to the entire campus. FM serves as a partner within the zone structure for the Contract Colleges (CC), Endowed (EN), and Student and Campus Life (SCL) zones. As a key steward of the University's facilities, FM is responsible for facility assessments, skilled trades, general construction, building care, grounds, recycling, asbestos, and the management of planned, corrective, and preventive maintenance.

Position Summary:

Act as a representative for the Zone Crew by supporting the mission, goals, vision, and initiatives of Facilities Management. Observe and enforce compliance with work rules, safety policies, and the UAW contract. Promptly report performance feedback and violations of procedures/policies to the Zone Facilities Manager (ZFM). Assist in the training of all new maintenance mechanic staff in building systems and operations.

Organize and coordinate all special projects work for the maintenance mechanics, including all appliance replacement moves and installations in the Student and Campus Life (SCL) zone.

Assist the Zone Facilities Manager with coordination and assignment of work for the maintenance mechanics. Oversee work to ensure productivity and efficiency expectations are met. Communicate regularly with the ZFM about work progress and potential delays.

Act as the primary first responder for maintenance mechanic emergencies and backup for areas when mechanics are absent.

Liaison with Unit Facilities Representatives, vendors, and FM Procurement for maintenance mechanic ordering.

The Senior Maintenance Mechanic assigned to work in the Student and Campus Life Zone will oversee and perform corrective maintenance and preventive maintenance. Senior Maintenance Mechanics working in the Endowed and Contract College Zones will focus on preventive maintenance.

This is a union position within the United Auto Worker's bargaining unit (UAW). The rate of pay is $29.41/hour. At the end of the probationary period, employees will be required to pay union dues per Article 1 of the Agreement.
