Job description
- Job Title: Picker
- Location: Henry Schein - 5315 W 74th St Ste 300, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46268
- Job Description - Employees will:
- Push a large cart down one long aisle of shelves to pick items and build individual orders for the customer.
- Wear a headset where they voice pick with "Jennifer" who will direct them to where/how many items to pick.
- Count the correct quantity of item, VERIFY WITH JENNIFER AGAIN, bring the item back to their cart in the aisle, verify AGAIN with Jennifer, and then place in the corresponding bin.
- Each cart will have a minimum of 12 large bins (each bin = 1 order) and a maximum of about 20 orders
- A "cart" could take 15 minutes OR it could take 2 hours... it all depends on how in depth each order is.
- This job looks like you are shopping in a grocery store, except the cart is very large.
- Once you get to your shelf you leave the cart in the main aisle and grab what you need off the shelf.
- The picking area is crowded/congested so people need to be patient at times to let other carts pass.
- All jobs here are very individual. Employees will have their tasks, and they are expected to perform them safely and correctly. They will pass by many people, but there isn't much "teamwork".
- Employees must have the ability to:
- stand on feet for full 8 hour shift (outside of breaks)
- walk good distance during the day (constant pushing of the cart) - bring great walking shoes!
- read, write, speak, and understand English (voice pick)
- Work in a congested production environment
- My current employee said "the picking system is pretty easy to use. You use a headset to talk to Jennifer and she gives you instructions on where/how much to pick. I was fine on my own after one day of training. The hardest part of the job is all the walking and pushing the cat which gets heavy as you go".
- Environment:
- Clean, air conditioned facility
- NO CELL PHONE ALLOWED IN ORIENTATION OR ON THE FLOOR - employees caught with cell phones will be asked to leave
- Dress Code: Employees can wear shorts & t-shirt (closed and backed shoes are required)
- Shift :
- 1st shift – 7am to 3:30pm - $17hr
- 2nd shift – 2pm to 10:30pm OR 3:30pm to 12am (depending on need) - $19hr
- **NO Mandatory OT, and no guarantee that OT is available at all**
- **Breaks are two 15min paid; one 30 min unpaid lunch**

Someone could get it for only 1 hour per week or all 40! Right now, about 15% of people are getting paid this bonus! 104% is easy... keep an eye on the accuracy (according to supervisor)
- Trainers are side by side with new hires for 3+ days or more if needed. Each person has 1 trainer and the trainer will be the same each day.
- Henry Schein is a large distribution center, so the vast majority of the facility looks just the same.... a big warehouse. The place is BUSY and crowded. Currently, the business has outgrown the building, so they are cramped. At times if you are walking or driving equipment down the aisle you need to communicate with the other employee to let them exit before you are entering.
