Summary This position will be open until filled. Performs a variety of technical clerical duties which includes greeting the public, screening and directing telephone calls, and performing a variety of clerical duties such as entering reports, scanning documents, and transcribing reports from tapes, into the computer system.
- Hiring range for this position is between $21.69 - $23.25 per hour (steps 1-3), depending upon qualifications. - Progressive increases are based upon years of service with Skagit County, up to step 8 (top step is $27.60/hr.). The Support Services Technician is Range 8 of the Sheriff Support Staff Guild salary schedule.
Essential Functions Assist screening incoming calls in a professional manner on a multi-line phone system. Take accurate and timely messages for proper routing within the office.
Assist with public at front counter. This may involve such duties as issuing licenses and permits as authorized. Refer inquiries outside scope of knowledge and authority to appropriate individuals or agencies.
Operate within the Skagit County computer network system including word processing, spreadsheet functions and interdepartmental mail systems.
May be assigned as TAC (Terminal Agency Coordinator) for ACCESS. Responsible for coordinating and maintaining WACIC records for State audit.
Operate ACCESS computer consoles to make inquiries or entries of relevant law enforcement data such as orders, registrations, identifications, criminal records, warrants, etc.
From handwritten drafts or verbal instructions, type or otherwise prepare a variety of letters, memos, forms and reports.
Use of office machines as required such as computer, scanner, typewriter, adding machine, photocopier and other standard office equipment as well as any special office machines.
Supervisory: This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: Act as back-up support for data entry and records. Will be required to become familiar with basic functions of positions in order to provide support.
Provide clerical support under the direction of the Chief of Administrative Services. Type a variety of letters, memoranda, forms and reports from handwritten drafts or verbal instructions using word processing system.
Performs related duties as assigned. Related duties as required are duties that may not be specifically listed in the Position Description but are within the general occupational series and responsibility level typically associated with the employee's classification of work.
Minimum Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or G.E.D. Three years previous clerical/office experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted which provides the skills, knowledge and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
Requires knowledge of: - Operation of standard office equipment

- Type 60 words per minute
- Ability to pass a County background investigation, including a polygraph and other possible tests
Licenses and/or Certifications: Washington State driver's license.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed primarily in an office setting, which may require working varying shifts. Work is typically performed while seated in an office environment. Able to sit for long periods of time. Some bending or light lifting required. Manual dexterity sufficient to operate various office machines
Hazards: Normal hazards in an office environment. Exposure to people whom may be angry, defensive or volatile.
