Leads a highly specialized multidisciplinary research program in literacy education within the Center for School & Community Partnerships. Leads the submission of proposals for external sponsored funding and serves as principal investigator on sponsored projects. Provides leadership and support on grants and sponsored projects at the Center through grant writing, project management, and ensuring regulatory compliance of externally funded programs.
Department Overview:
The Center for School and Community Partnerships at Boise State University is seeking a Principal Research Scholar to strengthen and support our work that focuses on community-engaged scholarship relevant to K-12 education. This position is funded for the first year, with administrative and logistical support available to prepare grant applications, with the aim of allowing the incumbent to develop a self-sustaining research portfolio.

The Center for School and Community Partnerships at Boise State University has a robust project portfolio, with more than a dozen projects, 28 staff, and 8 affiliated faculty. Annually, we administer more than $6 million in projects, and our work serves hundreds of Idaho schools, and thousands of educators and students. Our work is grounded in a strong commitment to service, and community-engaged partnerships that support the work of public education systems. Applicants will join a team of professionals with a variety of expertise in instruction, student support services, school leadership, STEM education, special education, school nutrition, program evaluation, and other topics.

Level Scope:
Recognized master in a professional discipline with significant impact and influence on campus policy and program development. Establishes critical strategic and operational goals; develops and implements new products, processes, standards or operational plans to achieve strategies. Regularly leads projects of critical importance to the campus that carry substantial consequences of success or failure. Requires significant influence and communication with executive leadership. Problems faced are frequently complex and multidimensional, requiring broad-based consideration of variables that impact multiple areas of the organization.
Essential Functions:
35% of the time the Research Scholar, Principal will:
● Oversee the set-up, management, and tracking of billing, expenditures, and revenue streams.
● Direct and oversee interfaces with vendors, contractors, professional research staff, faculty, and students to develop and manage research projects or programs.
● Serve as a principal investigator on a funded research projects.
● Supervise or mentor and train undergraduate and graduate students, postdocs, and research staff.
● Take lead responsibility for entire research projects or programs.
● Oversee the preparation of complete documentation of research activities for reference purposes, including following applicable data management protocols.
● Ensure the appropriate analysis, interpretation, and documentation of research findings.
● Evaluate existing research techniques and identify improvements to ensure quality and productivity.
● Take lead responsibility for the preparation of proposals and reports.
● Work with external partners, other faculty at Boise State University, and external collaborators, for building partnerships related to student success, literacy, program development, and related educational services.
● Responsible for the hiring, supervision, and assessment of staff.

60% of the time the Research Scholar, Principal will:
● Support grant-funded activities of the center, by:

o Instituting and executing a project management framework. Supervision and execution of the framework components include: reporting, collaborative agreements that include co-authorship, PIs funding (spending plan), data management (storage and sharing)
o Track and prioritize projects to keep multiple projects moving in a timely manner and meet deadlines.
o Ensure regulatory compliance of externally funded programs for the Center; ensure that the university and all investigators, faculty, and students involved with the programs maintain compliance with respect to the goals, regulations, and budgets of the programs.

● Develop and maintain strategic partnerships in literacy education and research within the College of Education and across the University.
● Identify, assess, and pursue new and diverse funding opportunities for specific projects and programs to advance a literacy research agenda within the Center and impact the long-term scholarly and creative mission of the college and university.
● Support the fiscal, business development, and strategic planning efforts for the Center for School and Community Partnerships
● Assist the Director of the Center for School and Community Partnerships by assuming project leadership and administrative leadership, and representing the Center on College and University-level committees and meetings as needed.

● May perform other duties as needed.

● Demonstrated ability to be entrepreneurial and to successfully develop and administer self-supporting programs.

● Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders and to develop and maintain partnerships.
● Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and in teams.
● Demonstrated ability to manage multiple sponsored projects and competing priorities.
Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a minimum of a Ph.D. (or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant discipline), with at least 3 years of experience similar to that of a Senior Research Scholar.
Preferred Qualifications:
Earned rank of Associate Professor (with or without tenure), and at least 7 years of progressive accomplishments in research scholarship. Substantial external funding as principal investigator or co-principal investigator, demonstrating the potential to independently secure research grants. Current active grants from federal agencies will be considered a strongly preferred qualification.
Salary and Benefit s:
Salary $50-$55/hr, with full-time work (40 hours per week) anticipated. The position is financially supported for 9 months (salary spread over 12 months), with the possibility of earning up to 12 months of salary by securing additional grants and contracts to cover 3 more months.
