Job description

We are seeking a visionary Director of Accounting to join our team at the Home Furnishings Association (HFA). As the Director of Accounting, you will spearhead our financial operations, ensuring compliance and optimizing processes for efficiency. Leading a team of dedicated professionals, you'll play a pivotal role in budgeting, financial reporting, and audit oversight while embodying our company's core values.

**Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:**

**Operations and Compliance (65%):**

- Supervise daily departmental workflow
- Maintain and generate financial reports, including monthly reports for the Board of Directors
- Prepare financial and budget reports for various departments
- Conduct analysis on accounts payable and accounts receivable, presenting findings to relevant committees
- Lead the annual budgeting process
- Ensure GAAP compliance and oversee the annual audit and review process
- Implement process improvements and maintain internal controls
- Administer accounting, payroll, and expense management systems

**Leadership and Management (35%):**

- Foster a culture of Leadership, Management, and Accountability (LMA)
- Set clear expectations, communicate effectively, and provide necessary support to team members
- Manage and motivate the team through periods of change
- Establish and monitor performance goals for individuals
- Provide coaching and guidance to team members
- Address HR issues in accordance with company policies

**Required Skills/Abilities:**

- Proficiency in project management, including planning and resource management
- Advanced communication skills with stakeholders
- Strong leadership abilities, including staff direction and delegation
- Expertise in accounting principles and financial reporting
- Familiarity with relevant software tools, including Google Office and financial/accounting software
- Technical proficiency with project management software

**Education and Experience:**

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA preferred
- 8-10 years of experience in accounting and finance, with at least 5 years in a managerial role

**Physical Requirements:**

- Remote position with flexibility in business hours
- Extended periods of desk work and computer usage
- Approximately four weeks of annual travel to staff events
