He shall assign duties to personnel under his supervision, and shall make recommendations to the Superintendent regarding the employment, assignment, and dismissal of personnel. He shall conduct staff meetings as he deems necessary for the guidance of employees. In consultation with the Superintendent, he shall develop and issue manuals for teachers, students, and employees respectively, which shall advise them of appropriate information regarding school procedures and rules, and shall set forth such information as is necessary for them to carry out their responsibilities. He shall have the authority to excuse high school employees from work for one hour or less in conformity with board policy and practice.

He shall be responsible for the proper supervision and discipline of high school students on school property. When possible, he shall confer with the Superintendent concerning important decisions for which there is no policy or precedent before taking action. He shall report all significant accidents and injuries to students to the Superintendent at the earliest possible time.
Curriculum. In consultation with the Superintendent, the principal shall develop the philosophy of education for the grades under his supervision in conformity with board policy. He shall be responsible for the curriculum in the secondary grades. He shall plan and schedule the classes, and register and assign students to classes. He shall plan and direct an in-service training program for faculty members who teach high school classes. He shall recommend to the Board those students who are qualified to receive a graduation diploma. He shall prepare and provide the Superintendent with annual written reports reviewing the work of the high school, and make recommendations for the future. To aid in accomplishing these goals, he shall remain informed of developments in education by continued study, reading professional publications, conferring with other school leaders, visiting other school districts, and by attending education-related meetings and workshops.
Facilities. The principal, in cooperation with the Superintendent, shall be responsible for the care, maintenance, and operation of the secondary facility and any other portion of the building which is used by secondary students, or which the Superintendent assigns to the principal’s supervision. He shall supervise the care of the buildings, grounds, furnishings, and equipment of the secondary facility. By June of each year, he shall prepare and submit to the Superintendent an annual inventory of equipment, textbooks, and supplies. He shall advise the Superintendent of any concerns about facilities, alterations to facilities, additions, new equipment, and improvement of the grounds, shall make recommendations regarding the same, and shall advise the Superintendent regarding budgetary matters affecting the high school.
