Summary: This position is responsible for reviewing copy for grammar, punctuation, clarity, style, and flow. Also ensures accuracy, completeness, and adherence to established formats. Works under general supervision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned to meet editorial department objectives.
- Reads and copy edits news stories, special reports, commentary, website feature transcripts, and analysis daily to meet deadlines. Checks copy for grammar, punctuation, clarity, style, and flow and footnotes for adherence to in-house and Bluebook formatting.
- Ensures accuracy, completeness, and adherence to established formats. Follows company style manual, among other resources.
- Directs style or content questions and issues to editors or supervisor as needed.
- Provides guidance to writers, editors, etc. regarding style questions.
- Monitors document status in content management system.
- Might work late hours if necessary.
- Adheres to established deadlines.
Knowledge & Skills:
- An excellent understanding of style and grammar, with precise attention to detail

- Computer proficiency in Windows, Office, electronic databases, and web searching preferred

Requirements
- BA in English, journalism, or related field that requires strong writing skills, or equivalent in experience
- 3 to 8 years of editing experience required
