Department Overview
At the core of the California Digital Library (CDL) is a simple idea - by mobilizing the expertise and creativity of our diverse community and engaging in collaborative problem-solving, we can transform the way libraries and scholars work, thus furthering the University of California's mission to educate, illuminate, and serve. Through CDL's commitment to sustainable open scholarship, an ever-wider range of freely available research informs ever-more potent responses to real-world challenges. Together with the UC campus libraries and our other partners, we expand the academy's capacity for innovation, knowledge creation, and research breakthroughs, and enable the University to produce a measurable impact valued by the state, the nation, and the world. The CDL has four core programs: the UC Curation Center (UC3); Shared Collections; Discovery & Delivery; and Publishing, Archives, and Digitization. UC3 supports leading-edge products (DMPTool, Merritt, EZID), as well as initiatives in the areas of data management planning, data publication, persistent identifiers, and digital preservation. California Digital Library is a unit within the Academic Affairs division of the UC Office of the President, has a staff of 75+, and is located in downtown Oakland.
35% PID Portfolio Leadership and Oversight: Manage a diverse portfolio of strategic and operational tasks, including overseeing PID-related products and services, regular consultation with campus constituents, and leadership in national/international discussions regarding persistent identifiers and the role of open scholarly infrastructure in the research enterprise.
20% EZID Product Development and Enhancement: Guide product development activities with a focus on EZID (ezid.cdlib.org) and related projects, overseeing the effective implementation of features that enhance the utility and functionality of PIDs, ensuring they align with community standards.
15% Strategic PID Planning: Develop comprehensive, long-range strategic plans and roadmaps, shaping the trajectory of PID implementation and addressing known gaps and emerging trends.
10% Opportunity Assessment: Evaluate new opportunities and technologies that would advance UC3's work, as well as industry trends as they emerge, to determine if they can be adapted for the increased utility of the UC3 portfolio related to PIDs and open scholarly infrastructure.
10% Campus Collaboration: Collaborate with key campus stakeholders and community partners.
10% Community Engagement: Lead strategic conversations and engagement with national and international initiatives within the open infrastructure space, focusing on the critical role of persistent identifiers and open scholarly infrastructure. These discussions include work within scholarly persistent identifiers and open scholarly infrastructure communities, including but not limited to DataCite, Crossref, ROR, ARKs, and other global PID initiatives.
Experience
Required Qualifications
* Minimum of 5 years of experience working within the research data environment, academic libraries, data sciences, or related fields.
Skills and Abilities

* Product Management: Proven skills in managing product development projects, including working with external stakeholders and internal development staff to prioritize and implement new features.
* Strategic Thinking: Demonstrated ability to develop long-range strategic plans and roadmaps specifically tailored to Persistent Identifiers within product portfolios.
* Innovation: Track record of adopting innovative technologies and adapting community trends.
* Stakeholder Management: Effective collaboration with campus stakeholders and community partners to ensure the seamless integration and utilization of Persistent Identifiers in meeting user needs.
* Digital Library Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of the digital library space, with a specific focus on Persistent Identifiers and their crucial role in advancing data publishing initiatives.
* Communication: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for leading strategic conversations and engagement related to Persistent Identifiers within the UC3 context.
Preferred Qualifications
* PID Expertise: Proven expertise in persistent identifiers, particularly in the context of research data or related communities.
Education
Required Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in the lab sciences, information science, data science, or other disciplines related to research data management.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience working in an academic research library or digital library setting.
