The CDL has four core programs: the UC Curation Center (UC3); Shared Collections; Discovery & Delivery; and Publishing, Archives, and Digitization. UC3 supports leading-edge products (DMPTool, Merritt, EZID), as well as initiatives in the areas of data management planning, data publication, persistent identifiers, and digital preservation. California Digital Library is a unit within the Academic Affairs division of the UC Office of the President, has a staff of 75+, and is located in downtown Oakland.

Position Summary
The Senior Product Manager for Persistent Identifiers (PIDs) at the UC Curation Center (UC3) oversees a diverse portfolio of PID-focused products and services. In this role, the Senior Product Manager manages collaborative efforts with both systemwide initiatives and partnerships on a national and international scale. The primary responsibility is to build and lead cross-functional teams, ensuring the smooth operation of UC3's PID-related offerings. This includes managing product development processes and guiding the implementation of features aimed at enhancing the overall usability and effectiveness of the portfolio. Recognizing that persistent identifiers are integral to a broader discourse on robust open scholarly infrastructure, the Senior Product Manager also assesses new opportunities that align with UC3's mission and stays attuned to emerging community trends. The Senior Product Manager collaborates with key campus stakeholders and community partners, fostering relationships to drive transformative solutions and initiatives. The Senior Product Manager's leadership defines the trajectory of each product within the portfolio, ensuring they remain at the forefront of design and implementation, meeting the needs of users within the UC system as well as national and international stakeholders. In addition to overseeing day-to-day operations, the Senior Product Manager plays a vital role in crafting long-range strategic plans and roadmaps for the portfolio. The position involves leading strategic discussions and engaging with national and international initiatives in the digital library space, contributing to the broader landscape of scholarly infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

35% PID Portfolio Leadership and Oversight: Manage a diverse portfolio of strategic and operational tasks, including overseeing PID-related products and services, regular consultation with campus constituents, and leadership in national/international discussions regarding persistent identifiers and the role of open scholarly infrastructure in the research enterprise.

20% EZID Product Development and Enhancement: Guide product development activities with a focus on EZID (ezid.cdlib.org) and related projects, overseeing the effective implementation of features that enhance the utility and functionality of PIDs, ensuring they align with community standards.

15% Strategic PID Planning: Develop comprehensive, long-range strategic plans and roadmaps, shaping the trajectory of PID implementation and addressing known gaps and emerging trends.

10% Opportunity Assessment: Evaluate new opportunities and technologies that would advance UC3's work, as well as industry trends as they emerge, to determine if they can be adapted for the increased utility of the UC3 portfolio related to PIDs and open scholarly infrastructure.

10% Campus Collaboration: Collaborate with key campus stakeholders and community partners.

10% Community Engagement: Lead strategic conversations and engagement with national and international initiatives within the open infrastructure space, focusing on the critical role of persistent identifiers and open scholarly infrastructure. These discussions include work within scholarly persistent identifiers and open scholarly infrastructure communities, including but not limited to DataCite, Crossref, ROR, ARKs, and other global PID initiatives.


Experience
Required Qualifications

* Minimum of 5 years of experience working within the research data environment, academic libraries, data sciences, or related fields.

* Product Management: Proven skills in managing product development projects, including working with external stakeholders and internal development staff to prioritize and implement new features.

* Strategic Thinking: Demonstrated ability to develop long-range strategic plans and roadmaps specifically tailored to Persistent Identifiers within product portfolios.

* Innovation: Track record of adopting innovative technologies and adapting community trends.

* Stakeholder Management: Effective collaboration with campus stakeholders and community partners to ensure the seamless integration and utilization of Persistent Identifiers in meeting user needs.

* Digital Library Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of the digital library space, with a specific focus on Persistent Identifiers and their crucial role in advancing data publishing initiatives.

* Communication: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for leading strategic conversations and engagement related to Persistent Identifiers within the UC3 context.


Preferred Qualifications

* PID Expertise: Proven expertise in persistent identifiers, particularly in the context of research data or related communities.


Education
Required Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in the lab sciences, information science, data science, or other disciplines related to research data management.


Preferred Qualifications

* Experience working in an academic research library or digital library setting.

Full Salary Range:
$105,500 - $200,700

The University of California, Office of the President, is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range shows the growth potential for this position and the pay scale is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.
