JOB TITLE: SENIOR HIGH ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
REQUIREMENTS:
- Master’s Degree in educational administration.
- Valid Nebraska administrative and supervisory certificate.
- Minimum of five years in education and previous experience in administration and human resource management is preferred.
- Such alternative qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable
- Successfully pass district background check
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM: Building Principal
JOB GOAL: Responsible for the supervision and discipline of the student body during the school day and at various activities. Assists the building principal and other administrators in promoting the well-being of each student in the school. Collaborates with other administrators to ensure consistent and timely implementation of policies and procedures.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve month (230 day contract) as established by the Board of Education
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the district’s Administrative Personnel Evaluation Policy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Consistent and punctual “on site” attendance at the worksite is an essential job function
- Responsible for the general discipline of the senior high student body.
- Assumes the leadership of the school in the absence of the principal as needed.
- Develops good rapport with staff members to support student needs and concerns.
- Attends conferences regarding student behavior problems, classroom procedures,
curriculum interpretations, activities/events, parental conferences, and other activities. - Makes periodic visitations to classrooms to improve the quality of teaching and evaluate
the performance of designated teachers. - Formally evaluates staff in accordance with district procedures.
- Reviews current professional “best practices” in the areas of student services and school
safety. - Serves on staff committees, holds membership in professional organizations, attends
appropriate conferences and clinics, and becomes thoroughly familiar with innovative
methods in instruction and curriculum and behavior management. - Confers with staff to problem solve solutions regarding various student issues.
- Utilizes (and integrates) community and program “wraparound” supports for students
and families. - Serves as a member of the interview team when SH candidates are being considered.
- Provides assistance in the regular inspection of the premises (both exterior and interior)
to identify and address safety concerns. - Consults with the building principal regarding budget requests and expenditures.
- Assists in disseminating information to staff pertaining to student services.
- Encourages and supports continuous learning opportunities for all staff members.
- Is actively involved in the community.
- Assists with the general supervision of student activities.
- Provides direction in regards to student discipline and attendance matters.
- Support the district’s Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and Positive Behavior
Intervention Supports (PBIS) processes. - Collaborates on the development of student handbooks; ensuring compliance with
federal and state statutes and current board policy. - Makes recommendations to the building principal with regard to the district’s student
services and school safety. - Attends professional growth activities as appropriate to further the quality of student
services and safety within the district. - Represents the district and serves as liaison with community and state agencies,
including law enforcement and emergency management personnel as needed. - Performs other tasks as may be assigned.
