Position description


Description
Under the general supervision of the Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, the Director of the Arts & Languages Programs is responsible for the development and management of professional education in Arts and Languages for UC San Diego's Extended Studies and Public Programs division. This position is an important part of the division's commitment to serving the lifelong learning needs of professionals worldwide. The current portfolio of certificates and programs is poised for growth.

The Director's responsibilities fall into two major functional categories:

1) Externally-focused development of productive relationships with employers, faculty, professional associations, and recognized authorities in arts and languages, leading to the development of appropriate educational courses and programs to meet the lifelong learning needs of professionals in those fields, and
2) Internally-focused management of an ever-growing portfolio of educational products, and the instructors and staff who deliver those programs, to sustain academic quality while meeting the financial requirements of a self-funded university division.

Development of Relationships and Appropriate Educational Programs - approximately 50%
Management of Educational Products, Instructors, and Staff - approximately 50%
Supervisory Responsibility

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Qualified applicants must hold at least a Master's degree in a relevant field.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge in the arts, languages, and humanities.
  3. Experience in market evaluation, opportunity identification, and new program development.
  4. At least 2 years demonstrated success in recruiting, selecting, and supporting a large pool of qualified part-time instructors.
  5. Experience providing strategic direction to marketing specialists, managing department finances, and supervising administrative staff.
  6. Demonstrated ability to oversee existing programs and keep them current based on evolving market needs.
  7. Demonstrated strong accomplishments in areas contributing to diversity, equity and inclusion, and a desire to play a leadership role in advancing UC San Diego's commitment to achieving excellence and diversity.
Preferred qualifications
  1. At least 2 years work experience in adult education.
