Overview

Responsible for providing financial and analytical support for a variety of senior management initiatives related to strategic initiatives and partnerships , industry benchmarking and other strategic projects as assigned by senior financial management. These projects usually are required to be completed on a very tight timeframe, are financially complex and are of a confidential nature. Additionally, this position is also responsible for supervising, through partnerships with external auditors, corporate bond counsel and Corporate Treasury, the detailed financial reporting analyses and requirements for all new debt financings and /or refinancing as well as the quarterly and annual compliance requirements for all of existing debt issues of Yale-New Haven Hospital ( Y-NHH ) and Bridgeport Hospital as well as manage and oversee the monthly grant accounting, compliance and reporting and audits for both internal customers and external government agencies. This position will also provide managerial oversight for a variety of financial reporting projects on an as needed basis. Areas in which this oversight will occur include: month end close package, Management Discussion and Analysis (MD&A), Board of Director presentations, financial committee packages, presentations for management and senior leadership, the compilation of the consolidated financial statements for all System organizations. The position will provide in depth knowledge on utilizing existing systems to develop internal and external reporting as well as increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the month end close process as required. Responsibilities will also include managerial oversight for the financial statement preparation of all employee benefit plans subject to audit and any other statements as required by the Director of Financial Reporting on an as needed basis. Additionally, the position will work with internal and external auditors to ensure that the reporting function is in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Standards in the United States ('U.S. GAAP') as well as with internal policies and procedures. Responsible for working on staff development, hiring, training and review of all positions under the Director of Financial Reporting. Further key aspects will be to engage staff through routine communication to promote a team environment and capitalize on synergies between financial reporting and general accounting. Other critical components will be to leverage analytic work performed (MD&A) to enhance the close process, build on process reviews and development of best practice techniques currently employed by financial reporting.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required. CPA preferred.

EXPERIENCE

The position requires five to seven years of demonstrated experience (with at least 2 years at a major public accounting firm), understanding of financial operational procedures and processes, including financial statement preparation. Must have demonstrated leadership experience in the preparation and coordination of financial statements. Demonstrated ability to coordinate and facilitate operational change in a complex environment with diverse agendas is required.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Ability to effectively supervise, motivate, and develop staff. Minimum three years experience with general accounting and financial reporting. This position will supervise activities and resources required in meeting tasks and objectives between multiple entities who have significant autonomous decision -making authority and the ability to effectively supervise these resources is necessary to achieve deliverables. Effective written, listening, and oral communication skills are required. Must have strong interpersonal, problem solving, and time management skills. Demonstrates integrity and ethics in dealings with others (e.g. employs honesty, trust and absence of hidden agendas; fulfills obligations/commitments, maintains presence and professionalism).
