The Communications Coordinator VISTA will focus on marketing and outreach of Healthy Parks Healthy People programs and free community events.
Position Description:
The Communications Coordinator VISTA will be an essential member of the team for this growing nonprofit organization. This VISTA will help develop a marketing and outreach plan to promote the Healthy Parks Healthy People programs and ensure underserved and low income community members have access to participate in the free community programs. This person will enhance the advertising and outreach strategies used to promote Parks Foundation programs and events via social media, traditional media, and streamlined website design.
Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation is a private nonprofit that was incorporated in 2012 and received its 501(c)(3) determination in 2013. The Parks Foundation protects and enhances our communities" livability through public engagement, education, and the sustainability of our parks, open spaces, and trails. Programs focus on improving community health and wellness and developing peoples appreciation for the natural and cultural history found in local parks. A special emphasis is placed on increasing access to free programming for low income community members in order to improve education and health outcomes for people living in poverty.

Timeline for Service: March 14, 2022 - March 13, 2023
Primary Responsibilities
Build an effective marketing and outreach plan for Healthy Parks Healthy People programs such as: Discover Your Parks Walks, Trails Challenge, and Dementia Friendly Nature Walks;
Expand, improve, and maintain the Parks Foundations social media profiles, website, weekly blog posts, monthly newsletters, and diverse digital media projects;
Assist with developing marketing and communications strategies for the Doggie Ambassador Program;
Support fundraising efforts and expand community support through strategic media campaigns focusing on donor stewardship and sharing the attitude of gratitude;
Assist in expanding and maintaining the Truckee Meadows Parks Project online database by reviewing, editing, and publishing researched content;
Grow Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation program visibility through traditional media coverage including press releases, podcast interviews, radio interviews, traditional news networking, and more;
Track and manage advertising campaigns and engagement through social media, newsletter, and webpage traffic analytics. Update and develop Standard Operating Procedures to identify and transfer knowledge of lessons learned and best practices.
Qualifications
Commitment to the Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation mission and vision;
Bachelors degree and/or one year experience in marketing, public relations, and/or communications;
Exceptional writing skills;
Strong communication skills;
Strong organizational skills;
High degree of initiative and spirit of service;
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment;
Experience using social media and traditional media as tools for marketing and outreach;
Preferred: Experience in graphic and/or website design;
Preferred: Reading, writing, and speaking competency in Spanish language.
AmeriCorps VISTA
Truckee Meadows Parks Foundations Communications Coordinator VISTA is funded by the AmeriCorps and will serve within the VISTA program. AmeriCorps VISTA is the national service program designed specifically to fight poverty. Each VISTA member makes a year-long, full-time commitment to serve on a specific project at a nonprofit organization or public agency. Compensation and Benefits
In return for their service, AmeriCorps VISTA members receive a living allowance of approximately $15,000.
Upon completion of service, choice of Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of approximately $6,100 or post-service stipend of $1,800.
A relocation settling-in allowance of no less than $750 if you are moving more than 50 miles, and travel allowance based on mileage may also apply.

Non-competitive eligibility for qualified government jobs the first year after completing service.
Professional development through monthly training, skills learned in service, and experience in a nonprofit environment.
