Vacancies exist in the Department of Public Works, Bureau of Transportation for CountyRide Drivers I.

Job Purpose
Under general supervision, safely drives a passenger bus to transport elderly, disabled, and rural residents to medical appointments, senior centers, or other activities within Baltimore County and Baltimore City.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
Possession of a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent,
Plus
At least two years' commercial driving experience transporting passengers.


(Experience as a CDL driver transporting passengers as described in the examples of duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of four years for the required education.)

Licenses and Certificates
Possession of a valid driver's license equivalent to a commercial, class C Maryland driver's license with passenger endorsement and a current Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations is required at the time of application.

Proof of License
Applicants are required to submit proof of their drivers' license at the time of application. Applicants with a license other than a Maryland driver's license must submit a current copy of their driving record at the time of application. Failure to submit proof of license and DOT card may result in your application not being considered.

Age Requirements
Non-Maryland residents must be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment.

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE
Qualified applicants will be assigned a rating based on an evaluation of their training and experience, as outlined on their application and supplemental questionnaire. Applicants are advised to state the dates, duties and responsibilities of past and present experience clearly and completely for evaluation purposes.

Note: Applicants selected for an interview may be required to demonstrate their map reading skills.

Conditions of Employment


Employees hired after July 1, 2022 are required to participate in the Baltimore County Employees' Retirement System, with very limited exceptions.


Employees must satisfactorily complete County sponsored CPR and First Aid training, NIMS (National Incident Management System) and maintain certification throughout employment.

Physical and Environmental Conditions
The position entails frequent operation of motor vehicles, driving in adverse weather conditions, and occasional heavy lifting.

Applicants selected for employment with Baltimore County must successfully complete a physical examination, drug screening and employment investigation, including, but not limited to criminal background, education certification and fingerprinting checks.

Salary

Annual Salary review - Step increases may be granted on anniversary date based on satisfactory job performance
General Increases - Cost of living increases and adjustments may be granted as legislated.
Longevity Increases - In accordance with the specific pay schedule, a full-time merit or classified employee may receive a longevity increase, equivalent to one step, upon completion of a certain number of years of classified service with the County.
