Job description
LS Black Constructors, with revenue of $150MM, is seeking an experienced financial professional for our Accounting & Finance Team in our St. Paul corporate office.
Position Summary The Controller is responsible for all aspects of the company’s internal financial management. This includes coordination of month-end close and internal financial reporting including job cost reporting. Additionally, the Controller will oversee the work of the company’s accounts receivable, accounts payable and payroll functions and will participate in audits and preparing reports for regulators.
Position Description The primary role of this position includes the following essential functions:
- Direct, coordinate, and oversee the activities of the accounting department for the accurate and timely financial management reports including internal and external monthly financial statements
- Oversee the timely and accurate execution of the month-end reconciliation process
- Work directly with key administrative staff to maintain corporate registration library
- Continuously monitor and reduce the number or journal entries made by identifying points at which errors frequently occur, identifying the cause and putting corrective actions in place as necessary
- Direct and coordinate the corporate cash management activities
- Analyze and manage company cash flow to ensure strong cash position
- Perform compliance reporting for bank vendors and make key decisions to ensure that contractual expectations are being met
- Complete bank reconciliations a timely manner
- Work directly with project managers to establish, manage, monitor and forecast project budgets, estimated cost at completion, and project level cash flow
- Work directly with Finance Leader to develop project level margin plans
- Work directly with Finance Leader on revenue forecasting, budget forecasting and G&A reduction plans
- Work directly with Finance Leader for accurate Work-In-Progress & General Ledger review
- Responsible for the creation of specialized financial reports and projects unique to management needs
- Responsible for implementing process efficiencies through automation
- Make recommendations for improvements in operations, monitoring and analyzing monthly operating results and controlling capital expenditures.
- Work directly with the Finance Leader, IT, Operations and Preconstruction in key areas of ERP Optimization
- Coordinate annual accounting review and tax preparation
- Review, revise as necessary, and approve job-level entries made by operations staff
Qualifications Required: - Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Minimum six years relevant experience in a supervisory or management position
- Thorough knowledge of GAAP and tax and audit reporting regulations
- CPA or experience in the construction or development industry
- Basic understanding of construction law
- Thorough understanding of revenue recognition principles
- Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, technical and other communication, problem-solving, and mentoring and leadership skills
- Detail orientation sufficient to organize and manage multiple priorities
- Proven positive and professional attitude, and strong customer service skills
- Ability to interpret and communicate LS Black policies
- Advanced Excel knowledge
- Significant ERP knowledge
Preferred: - Thorough understanding of DOL regulations, multi-state payroll, prevailing wage requirements, and union wage scales
