Job description
Job Title: Polymer Lab Technician
Job Summary
The polymer lab technician will perform functions pertaining to developing new polymer compounds including twin screw compounding, testing the ASTM specimens, and running wire coating/cable extruder line.
Job Description
- Running pilot-scale compounding and wire extrusion lines
- Running the polymer characterization instruments in the lab: FTIR, DSC, TGA, DMA etc.
- Performing sample preparation including molding, cutting and stamping samples
- Testing of polymer samples per standard operating procedures - Tensile tester etc.
- Recording and documenting results and accurately compiling data
- Ensuring proper labeling and good organization of all specimens
- Collaborating with high-volume production team to introduce new compounds and implement new process
- Working with R&D engineers, technicians, and production operators
Essential Qualifications
- At least 3-years of experience in cable and wire extrusion industry
- Experience of plastic compounding and mixing
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (for compounding and mixing)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate or bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a field related to science and engineering, but not required
- Hands-on experience with Instron, FTIR, DSC, TGA, DMA, and TMA
- Fundamental electrical knowledge for electrical cables
- Competency with Excel for tabulating and plotting data
- Good teamwork and communication skills
- Good interpersonal skills and enjoy working as part of a team
- Diligent and detail-oriented work habits
- Experience working in a laboratory environment in a safe manner
