Job description
Job Title: Heavy Duty Diesel & Shop Mechanic (or Travel Mechanic)
Supervisor(s) Title: Vice President of Kodiak Freight
Job Summary: This position will be responsible for performing preventative maintenance and repairs on Trucks, Trailers, Heavy equipment and Facilities. An individual with intermediate diagnostic abilities, strong problem-solving skills, and a mechanical aptitude will strive in this position. This position will also provide warehouse support.
Mechanic Responsibilities & Duties:
- Inspect vehicle systems including suspension, steering, and exhausts
- In-depth knowledge of diesel engine components and operational mechanisms
- General chassis mechanic and container mechanic work
- Utilize equipment (forklift/truck) in the repositioning of chassis on yard
- Repair and/ or replace vehicle brakes, air systems, tires/wheels, cooling/HVAC, 12-volt electrical systems, and electrical DEF systems
- Superior knowledge of maintenance tools and repair equipment
- Comfortable using mechanical and electrical power tools
- Keen attention to detail
- Basic knowledge of computer systems and other relevant electronics
- Advanced knowledge of a vehicle, its electrical system and the mechanisms of a diesel engine
- Proficiency in the use of diesel engine diagnostic software
- Work collaboratively within the Shop team to ensure all related tasks are completed in a timely manner and completed correctly
- Perform annual DOT inspections
- A valid driver’s license
- Good interpersonal skills
- Effective collaboration and communication skills
- Other Duties as assigned
Qualifications & Skills:
- MUST be able to supply own tools necessary, needed, and required
- Ability to respectfully talk to others to convey information effectively
- Adaptable and flexible individual who enjoys doing work that requires frequent shifts in direction
- Dependable and reliable
- Intermediate computer skills
- Ability to retain knowledge of standard operating procedures and follow verbal and written instructions
In addition this position requires the ability to:
- Work in various environments such as in the cold, rain, snow, or heat
- Occasionally lift or carry up to 100 pounds
- Be under trucks, trailers, heavy equipment as well as stand, walk, or crawl on various surfaces for long periods of time
- Must be a team player
