Your role as an Intern, Minor League Performance Nutrition:
You will be assisting the Minor League Performance dietitian through day-to-day tasks, as well as larger projects and data collection. You will be located at the Spring Training complex in Peoria, Arizona for a 6-month period and have the opportunity to gain experience working in performance nutrition and professional baseball.
All the responsibilities we will trust you with:
- Assist in managing case load for complex league and rehab athletes
- Assist in hydration testing, support, and education
- Assist in data collection and monitoring – including hydration and body composition testing
- Develop and implement applicable education for athletes – including hands on activities (cooking demos, grocery store tours, etc.)
- Maintain understanding in MLB supplement standards and implement supplement protocols at the complex
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills
- Serve as a source of nutrition education for all athletes and staff
- Manage supply and inventory of fuel zones and supplements
- Communicate with sports medicine, strength and conditioning, coaching, and food service staff to provide optimal nutrition for our athletes
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by nutrition staff
- Represents the Club in a positive and professional manner at all times
- Other duties as assigned
Your areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most:
- Proficient computer skills including experience with MS Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, and general knowledge of office skills and use of office equipment, including copier, laser printer, fax machine, telephones, and computers
- Possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and effectively work well with others in a collaborative, respectful manner
- Exceptional time management and organizational skills with capacity to handle high volumes of detailed work, multi-task and manage projects on strict deadlines
- Maintain professional demeanor with a high degree of discretion, integrity, and accountability
- Maintain consistent, punctual, and reliable attendance
- Experience working in baseball at the collegiate or professional is a plus but not necessary
- RD or RD eligible is a plus but not necessary
- Fluently bilingual in English/Spanish a plus but not necessary
You will be required to meet the following:
- Must be at least 18 years of age by the start of employment
- 4-year Bachelor’s Degree, or education equivalent, preferably in dietetics or nutrition-related field
- ServSafe manager certification required by start date
- Prior experience working in collegiate or professional sports
- Able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, holidays and extended hours as needed
- Able to travel as needed
- Minimum physical requirements: able to travel to and gain access to various areas of the ballpark for prolonged periods of time during games and events; able to lift and transport up to 25 pounds
- As a condition of employment, you must successfully complete all post-offer, pre-employment requirements, including but not limited to a background check
Salary and additional compensation:
Per the pay transparency law, the hourly pay rate for this position is $14.35. Seasonal, non-union employees based in Arizona are subject to the Arizona Minimum Wage and rates will increase accordingly.
In addition to your hourly rate, the Padres offer PTO, employee discounts, appreciation, recognition opportunities, paid housing subject to the terms of our housing assistance program and 2 Padres provided meals per working day.
