Job Title: Education Programs Manager
FLSA: Exempt, Full-Time (40 hours a week)
Reports To: Director of Programs
Wage Range: $50,000-$65,000
Summary
Serving more than 300,000 adults and children each year, the Connecticut Science Center is the state’s premier destination for informal science learning, a top tourist attraction, a hub for teacher training, and one of the state’s foremost resources for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). The Education Programs Manager will support the continued development of student and youth educational programs for the Connecticut Science Center. As a member of the Programs management team, this leader will help to set the strategic direction of our on-going in-person and virtual programming.
Key Responsibilities
- Work as a dynamic part of the Programs Leadership team to shape the strategic direction of the educational content, programs, and events for the Science Center.
- Collaborate with Programs leadership to draft contracts, grants, and other proposals for programmatic services to all our audiences.
- Manage and coordinate the equitable scheduling of the STEM education team for delivery of Discovery Center labs, Outreach, public programming, virtual programming, and more.
- Facilitate and manage regular meetings with the STEM educators individually and as a group
- Coordinate and manage the design and development of NGSS aligned programming for in-person, virtual, and outreach programming.
- Coordinate and manage the development of on-going virtual content from the programs team to support our virtual services, digital platforms, and the blog.
- Support the development and implementation of on-going teacher and students assessments and evaluations for Science Center programming.
- Work in collaboration with other staff and departments to coordinate any grant funding associated with managed projects.
- Support the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility goals of the Science Center by developing and ensuring that educational content and programs support all individuals in their development of skills and knowledge.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field and/or education demonstrating a strong foundation and background in a STEM discipline
- Experience working with elementary and middle school-aged children
- Knowledge of best practices used in the teaching and learning of science
- Understands the importance and value of being a member of a larger cross-functional and intra departmental team
- Ability to work together to support and maintain a healthy, supportive, dynamic work environment for staff and colleagues
- Skilled in current technology used to create dynamic and engaging programs including accomplished knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent organization and communication skills.
- Familiarity with the Next Generation Science Standards
- Previous experience creating and teaching inquiry-based, hands-on science programs preferred
- Flexible schedule to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary
- Must possess a valid CT driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record to drive to off-site locations
- A strong commitment to support Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion (DEIA) generally and in the specific functions of this role.
- Must provide proof of COVID vaccination or be approved for a medical or religious exemption, should such exemptions be part of employer’s policies, which may change from time to time.
- The employee must work onsite.
- Must attend all mandatory trainings.
Physical Requirements
- Repetitive movement of hands and fingers – typing and/or writing.
- Frequent standing, walking, stooping, and sitting for extended periods of time.
- Reach with hands and arms, seeing, hearing, speaking, and writing clearly.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move supplies and equipment up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels and speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in classrooms.
- Keen sense of smell when dealing with chemicals.
- Ability to drive a motor vehicle.
